Manager, Hardware Engineering
Job Description
Allegro MicroSystems is seeking a dynamic and collaborative innovator with a background in electrical engineering to lead our Hardware Engineering team. As a Hardware Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team responsible for the development and launch of new products through the design of electrical test hardware for bench system and high-volume automated test equipment (ATE) solutions. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to lead all phases of the hardware development cycle, including the definition of hardware requirements, implementation of the physical design, completion of the documentation package for manufacturability and validation of the final solution. Job responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of Hardware Engineers
- Collaborate with multi-discipline engineering teams
- Utilize technical documentation for mechanical systems and drawings, bench test equipment, ATE system resources for hardware integration
- Conduct industry research on best-in-class design practices for developing quality test solutions
- Select and Source electrical and electromechanical components Schematic capture and PCB design using industry standard tools
- Navigate electrical and electronic schematics, navigate between schematics and PCB layout diagrams and generate PCB output files
- Understand electronic devices, footprints, and device specifications
- Create and organizing Bill of Materials for test hardware production
- Interact with suppliers and PCB manufacturing sites
- Test complete electronic systems, individual boards and debugging to the component level
- Enhance capabilities of the team, strengthen the infrastructure and establish best practices for the hardware engineering team. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Hardware Engineering team, including the prioritization of tasks and adherence to schedules, and ownership of the quality and quantity of the team's work products
- Establish the department budget and maintain compliance to it
- Honestly and fairly assess the performance of team members; set individual and team goals; mentor and guide your staff to ensure that best practices are being followed and that continuous improvement is taking place at the individual and team level
- Recruit and hire new Engineers as needed
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and training opportunities to the engineering team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- BSEE or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree is preferred.
- 10 - 15 years of experience in hardware engineering in semiconductor industry, preferably in a leadership role
- Experience with Matlab/Simulink and Labview expertise are is desirable.
- Good verbal and written commutation skills and ability to effectively deliver presentation at engineering and management levels.
- Strong lab skills, i.e., proficiency with laboratory procedures and equipment, e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, circuit debugging.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong working knowledge of analog and digital circuit design
- Knowledge of the application and use of various electronics lab test equipment
- Experience with ATE applications, Teradyne Eagle preferred
- Experience with industry standard EDA tools for developing PCB designs, such as Altium Designer (preferred), Cadence Allegro Design Entry HDL and Cadence Allegro PCB Designer
The successful candidate will possess a good balance of technical and business acumen, be comfortable multitasking in a dynamic environment, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. This is a high-visibility position within the company and the business unit. Candidates must have the ability to make clear technical presentations to colleagues, Allegro customers, and Allegro's senior management staff
