This is an Engineering Manager position in IT Stability Enablement and Operations team. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible to manage a team of engineers; ensuring the stability of production systems; delivery of observability and performance analytics to execute the organizational vision and goals.

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$125,120 - $187,680

Job Description:
This is an Engineering Manager position in IT Stability Enablement and Operations team. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible to manage a team of engineers; ensuring the stability of production systems; delivery of observability and performance analytics to execute the organizational vision and goals.
Role Responsibilities:
- Hands on engineering manager responsible for defining and executing observability strategy for a complete line of business
- Partner with LOB IT leadership to support observability and performance management of applications, incident and problem management expertise and operational readiness rigor.
- Accountable for driving performance, availability and stability improvements of critical business applications, the architecture, and integrations to ensure optimal end user experience by working closely with Application development, Infrastructure, Database and Middleware teams
- Accountable for monitoring application stability trends (cloud/on-Prem) and identifying opportunities to improve performance and/or availability
- Providing IT Stability direction and guidance for strategic projects/initiatives aligned with enterprise architecture goals such as IT simplification and platform roadmaps.
- Responsibilities include managing and driving strategies for the technical solutions, supporting cost effective innovation and automated self-healing while collaborating with Application Owners to address current and future business requirements.
- Own and maintain the Reliability Engineering Framework (Tenants and Features)
- Ensure that the Reliability Engineers/Performance Engineers and Service Restoration Managers are adhering to and driving reliability engineering into their LOB partners
- Drive transparency and improvements through blameless postmortems that result in the reduction of staff that support SEV1/SEV2 and PRB engagements
- Provide management and leadership support for all systems software planning and installation activities including configuration, automated process improvements, environment preparation (dashboards, tagging, policy management etc.), and production and on-call support.
- Oversee vendor management related to third party solutions, verification of contracted services and adherence to SLAs.
- Manage a team of resources responsible for supporting the technical aspects of services and execute business plan objectives to achieve strategic goals.
- Accountable to coach and mentor resources as appropriate Budget & Resource Management
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field
- 5+ years of IT experience in development and/or production support, 3+ years experience in observability engineering, 3+ years of managing a team.
- Hands-on experience with one or more tools utilized by our Engineers (Dynatrace, Helix, Akamai, Splunk, AWS CloudWatch)
- An ability to accurately assess the severity and priority of multiple incoming inquiries from management, business customers, and application/service areas.
- Proven ability to influence and manage without direct authority.
- Experience in creating dashboards and/or reports, Experience using an ITSM tool such as ServiceNow.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead under pressure, make decisions in ambiguous situations, and drive cross group consensus in short periods.
- Excellent data-driven problem solving and analytical skills and demonstrable experience within a high-performance team.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship
