Why this job matters:
Lead engineers responsible for developing scalable, resilient, highly predictive, and cost-effective infrastructure, both on premise and in the cloud. Manage their work with Application Development teams to build applications that meet needs of business while being easy to monitor, support and maintain. Leverage their talents to drive efficiencies in how infrastructure is maintained and managed. Partner with Managed Service Providers (MSP) engineering solutions and ensure the MSPs execute focusing on long term business value.
What you will do:
- Manage, review, and approve technical designs to deploy applications meeting performance, capacity, resiliency, application visibility and security frameworks.
- Create a culture where efficiency and effectiveness come together to drive better experiences for our associates in how they leverage our infrastructure applications. Create solutions that increase productivity and profitability through innovation standardization, optimization, and automation.
- Collaborate with Application Developers to strengthen the operational viability and maturity of applications as they are designing, writing and testing their code.
- Provide oversight with our strategic partners to fulfill all contractual obligations related to systems analysis, infrastructure, and engineering activities.
- Create meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that critical issues are captured and addressed proactively without impacting our associate's productivity.
- Protect the Protected Health Information (PHI) our members trust with us. Actively manage technical infrastructure and technical cloud operations to achieve SOC2, NIST or similar Security and/or Operational frameworks.
- Evaluate corporate strategies, outside industry forces and identify impacts on the team. Set goals for your team, managing the people to help them be successful.
- Participate in and support the enterprise architecture process. Incorporate standards and drive to achieve the strategic technology objectives.

What you need to succeed:
- A combination of education and related work experience
- Ability to motivate, lead and inspire a diverse group to a common goal with multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated proficiency in designing, implementing, and optimizing robust IT solutions, leveraging industry best practices in system architecture, security, scalability, and performance.
- Adept at aligning technology strategies with business objectives to drive innovation and operational excellence.
- Experience with a global delivery model
- Strong business acumen and political savvy
- Ability to act as a strategist, visionary, or change agent
- Knowledge of process improvement methodologies
- Demonstrated knowledge of application environment management methodologies and product release cycles
- Working knowledge of various issue and software project tracking platforms such as Microsoft Azure DevOps or Atlassian Jira
- Working knowledge of ITIL and how it applies to lean IT operations
- Extensive experience and knowledge on cloud platforms, specifically Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform, with a working knowledge of Amazon Web Services
- Working knowledge of resource management and FinOps best practices in cloud environments
- Knowledge of container and other virtualization technologies, such as Kubernetes, Docker, and OpenShift, particularly in cloud environments
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and DNS, LDAP, NFS and SMTP, load balancing and high availability architectures, as well as a working knowledge of routing, switching, and wireless technologies
- Knowledge of RDBMS systems such as MySQL, SQL Server, PostGres, Oracle and applicable usage such as Data Lakes, Data Warehouse
- Knowledge of security best practices and frameworks across multiple technologies and environment types
- Ability to convert business strategy into action oriented objectives, roadmaps, and measurable results
- Ability to develop and manage a budget
The extras:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least ten years' experience in Information systems operations activities, including systems analysis, infrastructure and application support, software reengineering activities, and computer operations
- Five years of direct experience on Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform and other cloud specific technologies
- Three to five years' management experience or experience leading a team within IT
- Certifications for cloud technologies for Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform a plus
- Experience with Agile, Lean, Six Sigma methodologies
- Experience working in DevOps technology platforms and using DevOps best practices
- Experience with HIPAA regulations and how they are managed within infrastructure solutions
Location:
BCBSRI is headquartered in downtown Providence, conveniently located near the train station and bus terminal. We actively support associate well-being and work/life balance and offer the following schedules, based on role:
- In-office: onsite 5 days per week
- Hybrid: onsite 2-4 days per week
- Remote: onsite 0-1 days per week*.
*-Permitted to reside in the following states, pending approval from the Human Resources Department: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Virginia
