Manager, Motion Planning Collision Avoidance

The Collision Avoidance System (CAS) at Zoox is responsible for detecting and reacting to imminent collision situations in support of our vehicle’s overall safety goals. The CAS team consists of a diverse team of engineers experienced in perception, prediction, planning, and verification & validation. Overall, the CAS is parallel and complementary to our Main AI Autonomy stack, and has a close relationship with our vehicle hardware and safety teams in order to architect redundancy into our overall driving system. As Zoox prepares to launch our technology on public roads, we are seeking an experienced manager to lead our Motion Planning Collision Avoidance System team.

Responsibilities

• Lead the motion planning and control team under the Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS) organization
• Set the short and long-term technical direction for the team and collaborate on broader, company-wide directions 
• Coordinate cross-functional initiatives with CAS and Software teams within Zoox
• Grow the team through recruiting efforts and guide the continued professional development of team members

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in robotics, computer science, electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or related fields
• 3+ years of management experience in leading Software development on complex robotic systems 
• Solid understanding of autonomy software architecture principles and design patterns
• Demonstrated success leading technical teams
• Working knowledge in C++ and object oriented programming

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with autonomous vehicles
• Experience with State Estimation Algorithms
• Experience with software development in a regulated environment
• Technical depth in ONE of the following areas: Trajectory optimization, Search-based planning, Integration of prediction and planning

Compensation

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary will range from $221,000 to $319,000. A sign-on bonus may be part of a compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
