Job Description

The Manager Business Intelligence is responsible for oversight of the business intelligence function enterprise-wide, including people, processes and systems. The BI Manager works cross-functionally with other departments and leaders to define, prioritize and direct work assigned to the BI team. The Manager BI also provides direct support of the execution of the Desert Financial Data Strategy program in order to meet organizational goals, objectives and success criteria.

The Business Intelligence function acts as a center of excellence involving the identification, requirements gathering, development and ongoing maintenance of reports, dashboards, visualizations and models for the organization transforming raw data into actionable insights. This high visibility position directly manages the efforts of business analysts, data analysts, data engineers, data modelers and data scientists. This position primarily supports Desert Financial, but also provides direct support for other SwitchThink clients. Accordingly, the BI function is regarded as a profit center and the BI Manager has P&L responsibility.

What you will do here:

Team Leadership

Lead and supervise the Business Intelligence (BI) function to ensure the appropriate, skilled resources are in place to meet client needs. Manage staff performance, including mentoring, developing, and supporting the staff. Exemplify good leadership hygiene, including ongoing one on ones, individual development plans, goal setting and active performance management. Assist in setting annual budgets and manage income and expense performance to the budget.

Identify training needs and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for team members.

Promote a culture of learning and innovation within the BI team.

Data Analysis and Reporting

Lead the creation of data models, dashboards, and reports that provide actionable insights for various business units.

Collaborate with stakeholders to define and prioritize reporting requirements. Provide work status reports and resource forecasting to senior leadership and for select key clients.

Manage the work flowing through the BI Team. Most of the day-to-day work originates as work requests. Ensure that requests are acknowledged, that the requirements are understood and documented, and that requests are routed to the appropriate resource to be worked.

Manage the backlog, ensure that requests are appropriately prioritized and monitor progress of in-flight work to completion.

Performance Optimization

Continuously monitor and optimize BI system performance, identifying opportunities for improvement. Provide continual improvement of the BI function for SwitchThink and key clients. This will involve getting feedback from clients through surveys and other means, improving processes, documenting standards, and ensuring that objectives, scope, requirements, milestones, deliverables, schedule and cost estimates are met.

Stay current with BI tools and technologies to ensure the team is using the most effective solutions.

Budget Management:

Manage the BI team's budget, allocating resources effectively to meet project timelines and deliverables.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

What you will need:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, Statistics or related field required.

Mater's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, Statistics or related field preferred.

4+ years function experience in information technology, software development, BI reporting or related experience required.

2+ years leadership experience within a BI or data analytics team required.

Banking/Financial industry preferred.

Knowledge of data bases, and the development of reports, dashboards, visualizations and analytic models required.

Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with all levels of staff and management required.

Confidence in leading software development teams required.

Strong attention to detail and required.

Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and work cross-functionally required.

Strong relationship-building and customer service skills required.

Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities required.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment, managing on-going work and multiple medium-large complexity projects at once with minimal oversight required.

Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point, Project, SharePoint, and Visio) required.

Proficiency with SQL, a visualization platform (PowerBI or Tableau) and Atlassian JIRA preferred.

Experience with both Waterfall and Agile development methodologies preferred.
