Job Description

Under the general direction and oversight of the Chief Operations Officer and working collaboratively with our Chief Medical Officer and Chief Integration Officer, the Manager of EPIC Optimization and Education provides leadership and optimization for the organization's use of our electronic medical record EPIC OCHIN. As the lead administrator in this area, this role is responsible for planning and prioritization of EPIC OCHIN for the system, accountable for quality delivery of projects, and leading our team of analysts. Other areas of major focus include developing and implementing OCHIN workflows that meet our needs for healthcare quality metrics and improvement activities. This is a hands-on position with responsibilities that range from long-range planning and implementation of system-wide technology solutions to providing one-on-one and group training and support. Fiscal responsibilities of this position include budget development and adherence, contract and outsourced work, and vendor liaison with EPIC OCHIN.

Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center is a non-profit community health center that is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of our community by providing accessible, high quality care by integrating primary care, dental care, WIC support, mental health counseling, community health education and more.

Compensation: $87,000 - $105,000 annualized, depending on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop long-term optimization and education strategy for EPIC OCHIN. Consult regularly with the executive team to support their priorities for innovations, and improvements to existing systems. Execute on the approved plan and provide regular updates.
  • Build strong vendor liaison relationship with EPIC OCHIN. Work collaboratively with EPIC OCHIN to implement new scopes of work and maximize our functionality within the system.
  • Work with department leaders to understand their upcoming initiatives which may require IT integrations, forecast with reasonable accuracy budgets for future projects. Ensure that the team operates within fiscal guidelines
  • Works collaboratively with Quality, Clinical and Operations departments to support clinical quality data analytics. Actively participates in organizational-wide Committees to ensure that EPIC OCHIN is meeting our system's needs.
  • Implements EPIC OCHIN workflows that enable TVHC to document information in ways that can be extracted and ulitized for analytical and quality improvement processes.
  • Provide staff with leadership, coaching and development so as to retain skilled workers. Encourage staff development and education. Look for creative options for staff augmentation and outsource/contract technical work when it makes fiscal sense to do so.
  • Implements and sustains an onboarding program and ongoing training opportunities for TVHC staff and providers on EPIC OCHIN functionality and optimization.
  • Manages ongoing EPIC OCHIN upgrades to ensure our health care system is proactively planning and incorporating changes into our workflows and processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends and issues in healthcare, clinical practice, and healthcare informatics.
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to persuade and quickly gain credibility individually and in group settings

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, or the equivalent in technical certifications and experience preferred.
  • Certification in EPIC Ambulatory required.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working with EPIC Ambulatory. Preferred experience working with EPIC Cadence, Compass Rose, Workbench Reporting and/or Wisdom.
  • Ability to travel to all TVHC locations and destinations as required by supervisor.
  • Solid and proven experience working with diverse communities in a non-profit or healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising managerial and professional level staff is required.
  • Specific work experience (3-5 years) in implementation of EHR/EDR systems/ HIE/ system interfaces is required.
  • Experience working with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC's) and their specific patient populations is preferred.

  • Requires the ability to break down complex technical details into concepts that are able to be understood in a business context by executives.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and manage vendors and consultants.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and project portfolio, and the quality delivery of project completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, in collaborative settings required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete work without direct supervision. Requires ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills required, including creativity, resourcefulness, timeliness, and technical knowledge related to analyzing and resolving health IT problems.
  • Sensitivity to needs of culturally and linguistically diverse patient and employee population.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technology and cyber security best practices to adapt to the evolving technological requirements of modern medical health center practices.
  • High level of competency with healthcare IT networks and supporting systems.
  • Excellent emotional coping skills, adequate to confront difficult emotional situations and emotional responses of others.
  • Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends, and be on call for critical incidents escalation.
