This position is part of the growing RNG Team within NextEra Energy's Power Generation Division.

The Manager of Landfill Gas Collection and Control System (GCCS) Operations must have solid written and verbal communication, technical, and analytical skills. The Manager should possess extensive knowledge and experience with all aspects of landfill GCCS design, operations and management. The role requires at least seven (7) years of relevant experience at U.S. landfills subject to Federal NSPS requirements.

The Manager must demonstrate a strong aptitude in mechanical work, understands relevant regulatory requirements, is experienced in managing hourly teams of up to ten (10) individuals, and is capable of reading and implementing GCCS plans, equipment operating and maintenance manuals, and schematics.

Ideal candidate will need to be commercially minded, detailed oriented with strong analytical abilities and can approach projects with creativity and entrepreneurial thinking. The individual will interface with multiple organizations within and outside of division they support. The ability to build consensus and make quick, accurate and fact-based decisions are critical to success. Experience in a matrix environment is a strong plus, as is a high tolerance for uncertainty and flexibility to deal with unanticipated deliverables and tight deadlines

Position Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain close working relationships with customers and stakeholders
  • Supervise daily efforts of GCCS technicians in wellfield construction, repair and maintenance activities, along with those of wellfield technicians performing regulatory monitoring and wellfield tuning efforts
  • Planning, directing, and coordinating certain landfill gas collection system design, construction, and commissioning activities by contractors.
  • Interact/supervise/manage vendors and/or sub-contractors needed to assist with operating, monitoring, and maintenance of the GCCS
  • Have expertise in the use, maintenance and calibration of typical GCCS analytical equipment, including gas chromatographs and hand-held GEMs.
  • Be familiar with the correct operation of rolling stock associated with construction and maintenance of a GCCS, including operating a backhoe, small excavator, articulated dump truck, or small bulldozer used for soil removal/placement, replacing sump pumps, using extrusion welding equipment, and the like
  • Be capable of reviewing other landfills operations as part of development activities, and those considered for acquisition, as to past GCCS operations and maintenance practices, and recommending immediate as well as future changes to such practices to optimize gas recovery, gas quality and/or regulatory compliance.
  • Proactively work with landfill partners to optimize and increase efficiency of their gas collection systems
  • Leverage industry relationships to provide leads that result in growth for the Company
  • Support the annual budget process and monthly reviews, as necessary
  • Possess proficiency with MS Office Suite products, in particular Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Strictly follow and enforce Company safety policies and administer Company policies and procedures with direct reports, contractors and vendors.

  • Bachelor's Degree or master's in business, Engineering, sciences, or arts
  • Accreditation from a professional organization and/or continued education classes supporting GCCS design, operations and maintenance considered a strong plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to build relationships
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Six Sigma Certification; Yellow Belt or higher (preferred)
