LatinoJustice PRLDEF (LJP) is looking for a Manager of People & Culture to join our People Ops team in our New York City office. Working under the direct supervision of the Director of People & Culture, the Manager of People & Culture will be responsible for supporting organizational goals by Managing projects and departmental needs that support the development and implementation of People strategies. This includes managing tasks that impact hiring & staff retention; employee experience including performance management; organizational culture and DEIB; and learning & development.

The Manager of People & Culture will support the Director in the day-to-day operations to ensure that all People (traditionally referred to as HR) operations are carried on effectively.

The Manager of People & Culture will also collaborate with the People Ops Manager to provide support for specific operational needs.

The ideal person for this position is aligned with LJP’s mission, racial equity, and social justice values. RESPONSIBILITIES:

 HIRING & STAFF RETENTION

  • Manage Applicant tracking system by creating job postings from approved job descriptions, monitoring applications, screen resumes, and managing interview coordination.

  • Manage new hire process, ensuring new hire data is entered correctly in HRIS system and documentation is received in a timely manner. Collaborate with People Ops Manager in securing accurate data flow into payroll.

  • Support Director with implementation of employee engagement activities that support and encourage professional achievements and personal milestones. 

EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE

  • Benefits and Compliance: Assist employees with benefit programs, answering questions and concerns and liaises with internal and external partners to ensure accurate and prompt resolution to issues. Support the leave management program by answering staff questions in compliance with internal policies and all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

  • People Applications Support: Manage HRIS system and ensure accurate data collection and coordinate fix implementation when necessary. Provide general resource and tool support to staff, when appropriate. 

 LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT 

  • Learning and Staff Development coordination: Support learning activities in the area of People, including workshops, meetings, system trainings, by managing scheduling, communication, and creating resources when needed. In collaboration with the People Ops Manager, contribute with content for learning programs, such as the CafĂ© con Learning initiative at LJP, as a space for internal learning and engagement among staff. 

  • Compliance training: under the guidance of the Director of People & Culture, manage the coordination of mandatory HR training and continuing education, ensuring staff attendance rate is satisfactory and documented. HR compliance training will include policies and guidelines. Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, changes to regulations, recent technology breakthroughs in people experience, management, and employment law.

  • HRIS Data & Reporting: Manage the HRIS system, performing occasional internal audits and reporting as needed to ensure data accuracy and support decisions.

  •  Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

  • Non-profit experience a plus.

  • Experience should be in a Generalist or related role, preferably in all areas of the position described above.

  • Human Resources certification a plus.

  • Experience working in anti-racist organizations a plus.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • At least 3 years of Human Resources Experience.

  • Knowledge of employment Law (PDA, EPA, ADEA) ADA, FMLA, FLSA, HIPAA. 

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. 

  • Proficiency with technology, HRIS and talent management systems.

  • Experience working in a unionized environment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is based on a minimum of 3 years of experience, starting at $76,228.
