Position Overview
The Manager of Production IT will lead a team that plans, implements and maintains a variety of customer-facing infrastructure, which supports the Bonterra Corporate Social Responsibility applications, also known as CyberGrants. Because we're delivering software through a mix of growing and evolving applications, familiarity with the software development lifecycle is extremely helpful. This role includes a mix of project management, supervision, process development, and hands-on technical work.
Like most IT teams, we handle a mixture of break/fix and project work. This position will focus on production, internet-facing systems. We expect the Manager to spend about 50% of their time on team leadership, 25% on projects, and 25% on triage and troubleshooting. Candidates should be comfortable interacting with staff at all levels of technical expertise. Because our team is fairly small, all IT staff provide some end-user technical support.
Candidates should have the ability to research, recommend, plan and deploy systems, solve problems independently, and work with cross-functional teams. This role will include developing new policies and procedures, expanding automation, and continuous improvement in
Our team values communication and documentation. We have regular meetings to discuss work and solicit feedback. We document our work in a combination of JIRA and Confluence. We use Slack all day.
Requirements
  • 2 to 4 years of management experience
  • 4 to 8 years of professional IT experience
  • Substantial project planning and Agile methodology experience
  • At least 2 years in production, internet-facing-system support, involving

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux and CentOS operating systems
  • Web and database application servers
  • Amazon Web Services network, server and storage infrastructure management

  • Thorough understanding of IP networking

  • IP routing, addressing, and major protocols like SMTP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, and ICMP

  • Understanding of enterprise IT operations concepts and best practices

  • Configuration Management, Change Control, Redundancy, Security, Monitoring, Logging, Risk, Performance, Automation

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Understanding of source control and ticket-tracking systems

  • Experience with scripting languages (Bash, Python, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail, with solid organizational and time management skills

Helpful but not essential experience
  • Physical, on-premise network, server and storage infrastructure management
  • Apache web server, Oracle/WebLogic application server, Oracle Database
  • OpenSSL and public key infrastruture
  • Solaris and Windows Server operating systems
  • VLANs and switch management
  • VMWare server virtualization
  • Storage Area Networking
  • Non-profit fundraising and corporate giving

Other Things
  • This is a full-time position located in our Andover, Massachusetts office. Exceptional remote candidates will be considered
  • To support a range of multi-user systems, occasional planned work will be required outside of regular business hours, to minimize business impact.
  • We maintain off-hours coverage for critical systems with an on-call rotation, in one-week shifts, to address issues outside of normal business hours. New staff typically join this rotation after 3 months.
