Independent Advisor Software group offers innovative and differentiated products and services for the Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) market. Our all-in-one portfolio accounting and practice management platform, Morningstar Office supports RIA's day-to-day activities with our billing, performance reporting, back-office services, rebalancing, and account aggregation capabilities, powered by Morningstar's independent data and research.
As a Manager of Software Engineering, you will be a self-starter who gets technology as an art, understands business goals and skillfully guides your team to create scalable, flexible technical solutions. You will be responsible for high-quality custom software delivery and ensuring modern software development practices are being applied with rigor. You will motivate the team and cultivate a culture of high energy and technical excellence. Establishing a good support infrastructure to handle production issues and being responsive to customer problems is essential to the role. Hands-on engineering experience in large-scale system implementation and cloud-native architecture is required. While you understand that guiding the engineering team is important, you're not afraid to "get your hands dirty" and lead problem-solving or innovation efforts at a detailed level. This position is based out of our Toronto Office.
Job Responsibilities

• Be a champion for our integration development with internal and external partners
• Provide holistic oversight of software development and product architecture
• Drive teams to estimate thoughtfully and deliver software on time
• Advocate/enforce best practices for performance, reliability, scalability, security, and reusability
• Provide technical guidance to harmonize and ensure the consistency of all engineering efforts for products and solutions
• Facilitate discussions and resolve conflicts involving technical approaches, designs, and personnel
• Motivate team and create a strong culture of engineering excellence
• Hire and develop talent

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as a hands-on fall-stack software engineer developing commercial quality software products and solutions
• Deep understanding of cloud platforms and SaaS architectures
• Demonstrated experience defining, refining, and maintaining application architectures for sophisticated end-user software products
• Deep knowledge of a variety of technology components and stacks
• Experience in leading agile development team(s) and fostering best practices
• Deep understanding of performance, reliability, scalability, security, and reusability tactics and strategies
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience managing multiple teams of various sizes in different geographies is a plus
