Manager of Software Engineering

About the Role
The Manager role will be responsible for Implementation of Credit Ratings products which are specific to Ratings Creation process. This hands-on development role will involve managing a development team including Lead Software Engineers (to start with) and close collaboration with the Product Management, Credit Modelling team, QA team and DevOps (Site Reliability) to ensure timely and high-quality delivery. The role also involves liaising with the global team as this is a team based out of multiple geographical locations. The candidate would need to be experienced with agile methodologies, who comes from hands on development background and has played an lead or manager role in previous assignments.
This position is based out of our Chicago office.
Job Responsibilities

• Lead and manage delivery for a Full stack software engineering team
• Create and oversee project timelines, tasks/responsibilities, and deliverables
• Collaborate with groups throughout Morningstar to proactively identify and manage dependencies
• Setup right Development standards and practices. Also provide hands on solutions to issues and problems faced. Setup monitoring of apps in production using various tools like New Relic, VictorOps etc.
• Take ownership of the various areas of the software/product delivery
• Stay up to date on emerging technologies and be a mentor to the team members
• Managing a small development team including Lead Software Engineers

Qualifications

• A minimum of 9+ years' experience with a software development experience which should include 3+ years of architecture/technical leadership is a must
• Strong hands-on development experience using Python, SQL/NoSQL databases and overall strong knowledge of AWS. Open to learning new languages and contributing in hands-on development as needed
• Knowledge of Data Engineering, creation of Data pipeline and prior implementation of Data Architectures will be a strong plus.
• Providing strong technical guidance to the tech team enabling successful delivery of project
• Experience in JavaScript frameworks like Angular or VueJS or ReactJS.
• Strong knowledge of software development processes and methodologies including Agile and Scrum methods
• Experience with capacity planning, performance optimizations and overall system architecture
• General understanding of protecting web applications from common security vulnerabilities
• Strong communication and articulation skills
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
