Manager, Open Access Program Success
Job Description
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's Degree required
- 5 years of publishing marketing experience, preferably with an academic or scientific journal publisher required.
- Working knowledge of the Open Access journal publication environment preferred
- Strategic understanding of the issues impacting scholarly publishing and scholarly communication, including changing business models for scholarly content, Open Access and Open Science preferred
- Excellent organizational skills required.
- Relationship management skills preferred.
- Demonstrated background in developing promotional campaigns and copywriting.
- Proficient analytical and mathematical skills.
- Ability to effectively make presentations to internal/external groups.
- Understanding of the needs of various stakeholders including authors, librarians, and the scholarly community at large.
Computer Skills Required:
- Intermediate MS Office skills required, including basic Excel data analysis and visually impactful PowerPoint decks.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of strategies and execution of tactics to optimize the success metrics of customers who have signed Open Access publishing agreements with APA.
- Develop and maintain consistent OA-related messaging to all external stakeholders involved an OA agreement with APA, including consortia leaders, librarians and researchers.
- Develop content that makes it easier for researchers to take advantage of OA publishing agreements with APA
- Work in lockstep with the Library Sales team, ensuring that customer success drives APA's commercial success
- Collaborate with Author Marketing on driving submissions from institutions covered by newly established transformative agreements
- Collaborate with Library Marketing on library-directed messaging around APA's offerings in journal publishing, Open Access and Open Science
- Collaborate with journals editorial team to ensure that our publishing operation is aligned with the needs of consortia, institutions and researchers
- Continually monitor changes in industry practices related to OA agreements, including competitor activities
- Act as an internal advocate for customers that have signed an OA publishing agreement with APA
- Analyze customer needs, market data and internal data, and adjust customer success activities to ensure effectiveness and alignment with APA goals.
- Proactively develop consortia-specific promotional activity schedules and communication vehicles
- Provide ongoing author support including creation of user materials to ensure manuscript submission growth and overall agreement success
- Carry out the strategies and tactics aimed at exceeding agreed-upon internal metrics for the Open Access program including author submissions at the consortia and institutional level
- Ensure APA meets or exceeds stated requirements for outcomes sharing, including article output data, cost efficiencies, and other success factors.
- Other duties as assigned
