General Summary:

This position will drive the design, build, implementation and monitoring of all Broker Development initiatives. These initiatives will cut across all national distribution partners and will create more value for all field partners at all levels. This position will also design appropriate marketing communication materials that support the associated programs as well as provide communication on behalf of Unum US leadership to distribution partner peers.

This position will operate independently from the AVP of Broker Partnerships in the creation and monitoring of key initiatives that support the unit's goals including the Continuing Education program and associated vendor.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive the continued evolution of the Broker Development program to include program components, delivery mechanisms and measurement
  • Drive influential programming to key national partners through access provided by national relationship team members as well as independently when appropriate
  • Solicit feedback from sales leadership on an ongoing basis to refine programs offered on behalf of our field partners
  • Serve in a leadership role on department and corporate task forces for initiatives, working closely with management and peers
  • Drive broker development program design and work with marketing and field operations to ensure successful deployment
  • Own frequent creation of curriculum, solicitation of attendees, and delivery of mutli-day face to face education sessions for key distribution partners
  • Takes leadership role in performing the necessary research and analysis required to solve problems, correct problems, implement enhancements, and create awareness around arising trends in distribution and broker development
  • Provides mentoring, direction and training to Field and Home Office personnel regarding analysis, programs and other activities as they arise
  • Present information to all constituencies including UUS senior management, sales leadership and all other functional areas
  • Drives the design of appropriate priority communication materials and provides to all necessary people/areas including UUS and distribution partner leadership contacts
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of project or client management experience
  • Ability to lead and influence cross functional/non-direct report teams to a common goal
  • Excellent organizational, time management and planning skills
  • Understands corporate strategy and how it plays into development of plans and refinement of the broker development programs
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills for working with various corporate levels and across functional teams, including brokers and Unum field sales personnel
  • Strong relationship building, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Strong leadership, coaching, mentoring and training skills
  • Strong Project Management abilities
  • Ability to work well under pressure managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task
  • Strong PC skills with advanced knowledge of spreadsheet documentation and presentation application
  • Ability to exhibit full understanding of the Unum product and service portfolio to potentially large and high-profile audiences
  • Current Life & Health Insurance License or will have one within 12 months of hire

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$60,800.00-$106,500.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
