The Payments team is the core of how Lyft operates. From enabling passengers to take rides to paying the drivers, we ensure frictionless interactions on our platform. The team is responsible for every dollar that moves through our acquiring partners, our networks, and our internal systems. The Payments team’s mission is to make payments efficient, effective, and low-cost for Lyft and to open the payments industry to Lyft’s innovation. Trusted payment is fundamental to Lyft’s marketplace, and the Payments team is charged with ensuring all money flows through our payments system reliably and accurately. The engineering challenge and opportunity is to enable a superior and secure experience through the Lyft app for passengers and drivers resulting in a near instantaneous flow of funds for all participants. The Payments team has a history of enabling rich and creative features that set the standard for the entire sharing industry. In addition to launching new features, the Payments team is also the architect and owner of a robust and flexible payments platform which enables other teams at Lyft to leverage.
We’re looking for a rockstar to join a fast-paced and transformational company to manage various relationships and programs with our payment processors, networks and internal business lines. You’ll build our innovative payment platform that optimizes for a frictionless user experience. Within Operations, we partner with our external vendors along with our peers in Product, Engineering, Finance, and other cross-functional areas as part of a continuous feedback loop, so that we can deliver the best possible payments experience. You will work with multiple cross-functional teams to manage multiple payment initiatives across the company and will need to have a deep working knowledge of payment processes and systems in the US.
Responsibilities:- Manage global operations for all payments by owning all key relationships and managing all operational components of those relationships including onboarding, escalation, and day-to-day operations
- Collaborate with Payments leadership to further develop the Payments Operations team into a high-performing organization by defining, executing, and communicating operational processes, standards, and best practices that work flawlessly and minimize firefighting
- Act as Subject Matter Expertise (SME) for end to end payment processing from Tokenization, Authorization, Capture, Settlement, Reconciliation and Dispute Management (Chargeback)
- Support cross-functional teams for payment platforms to build out critical tools, create and automate processes where possible, and address longer-term or recurring issues
- Own payment issues from beginning to end by working with Engineering and external partners to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a systematic, timely fashion
- Execute payment programs effectively by supporting implementation teams within payments and across the entire company as a subject matter expert on operational matters
- Work with internal and external stakeholder to optimize payment flows to increase revenue and manage costs
- Be responsible to maintain service levels globally
- Bachelor's degree; MBA preferred
- 7+ years of experience in payment operations or partnerships, eCommerce, and retail experience
- Deep understanding of Payment processing (from transactions initiation to settlement/clearing/dispute management), accounting, and reconciliation process
- Knowledge of backend payment systems for both payment processors and merchants
- Experience managing card network relationships and alternative payment methods
- Proven success managing external customers and working with internal teams to build new capabilities and implement complex initiatives
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to impact and influence outcomes in a matrixed environment
- Analytical approach to problem solving and a track record of driving results through continuous improvement
- Data driven approach for ongoing operational performance measurement and tracking
- Ability to think strategically and adapt nimbly in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including managing multiple competing priorities, scheduling, and meeting deadlines
- Ability to operate autonomously and take the lead on Payment initiatives
- Positive attitude and willingness to roll up sleeves and dig deep to achieve goals
- Expertise on internal working of banking systems and card networks preferred

Starting in September 2023, this role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.
The expected range of pay for this position in the San Francisco area is $139,500 - $155,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
