Problem solving, focus on customer experience, leadership and developing/motivating a team is critical. Ability to manage data requests, sort data, and analytical, high level Excel capabilities (pivot, sort, analysis, etc.) a must. Proven experience dealing with confidential is a must.

As the Payroll Operations Manager, you'll lead a team in Payroll and Absence/Time-Tracking that understands the business and collaborates with our Human Resources partners and leaders to help the business grow. You'll advise on payroll policies, practices, and procedural matters and assist with strategic development of payroll related initiatives, processes, and policies. You'll ensure risk governance and compliance and identify and implement automation, data analysis, reporting and process improvements to drive operational efficiency. We'll count on you to be agile and meticulous with an analytical mind, display confidence, accountability, and resilience in a high pace environment.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads a team that delivers payroll-related processes and outcomes for both exempt and non-exempt associates, leaders, and executives in multiple states, responding to associate, business leader and Human Resources (HR) inquiries.
- Assists in development and delivery of payroll and time tracking related strategies. Prioritizes related goals to align and support business needs. Provides meaningful recommendations, presentations, reports, and documents to Payroll and HR leaders.
- Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, and Local payroll related laws and regulations.
- Establishes and maintains good relationships with HR, Compensation, and business leaders to influence and impact pay outcomes. Executes on pay decisions and bonus plans according to best practices, policies, and guidelines.
- Leads and serves as the authority for key Workday system functionalities and business processes within Payroll, including user acceptance testing, system administration, troubleshooting, security, data extraction, tables, data warehouses, report writing, monthly board of directors pay, and other sources.
- Responsible for the integrity of end-to-end payroll processes and ensures confidentiality of all relevant information. Troubleshoots, analyzes, identifies, and corrects technical problems and deficiencies related to payroll, making appropriate decisions based upon analysis, experience, and judgment.
- Ensures the successful development and delivery of year-end W-2s and 1099s for all associates and Board of Directors.
- Ensures accuracy of payroll documentation, data management, ad hoc and standard payroll reporting, and leads internal/external audit responses and management.
- Determines system, policy, and process for upcoming functionality needs and based on Workday-delivered road maps to ensure current state plans and to develop or modify effective strategies and plans to support future payroll capabilities.
- Leads complex projects of large scope with significant and long-term impact.
- Serves as a member of the Associate Experience & Advocacy leadership team, providing input into strategy development, planning and implementation.
- Mentors team and assigns work groups based on skills and developmental needs, including succession planning; assesses performance and delivers feedback.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director, Associate Experience & Advocacy. Leads a team of Payroll professionals.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration, data analytics, economics, finance or human resources; graduate-level studies preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Related certifications preferred which could include, but are not limited to, Workday related certifications (Workday Report Writer) CPP, FPC, CEBS, CBP, CLU, FLMI.
Experience: Typically, eight or more years of related experience in payroll or data analysis. End-to-end Workday payroll processing a plus including experience in Absence and Time-Tracking fields. Demonstrated project management experience. Business experience strongly preferred. Experience in administrative process improvement, planning, auditing, financial segregation of duties, data analysis and project management. Prior leadership/management/supervision experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: In depth knowledge of payroll administration and payroll related regulatory reporting, demonstrated knowledge in general business practices, approaches and legal compliance. Understanding of statistical concepts and analysis used in making payroll decisions and recommendations. Able to problem solve and develop recommendations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfort with all levels of management. Proven ability to maintain excellent attention to detail and accuracy and a high level of confidentiality.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.
