Job DescriptionAbout the Role:
Guardant Health is looking for an energetic and passionate manager to lead its Platform Engineering team. This team is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure to support development, release, and monitoring of software across multiple platforms needed to support its customers and patients receive timely decisions in various stages of their cancer journey.
An Ideal candidate would have experience in leading teams in a regulated environment with in-depth knowledge of Platform Engineering best practices and technical expertise to guide the team in delivering software products meeting the business needs in an efficient and fast paced environment. This role requires someone to be self-directed, autonomous, empowered, with coaching and critical thinking ability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Hire, train, coach, mentor and develop high-performing, geographically distributed team of platform engineers in an Agile environment.
- Build and promote quality driven culture in delivering COTS based LIMS Platform, Service oriented architecture and cloud-based API integration platforms.
- Co-define system integration test strategy with cross functional work streams featuring rich, complex business logic-oriented customer usage patterns.
- Provide accurate planning, effort and resource estimates, and milestones to ensure successful implementation of projects in a timely fashion.
- Effectively lead resource allocation based on project priorities and engage in trade-off negotiations to safeguard the team.
- Identify cross-platform software challenges and devise innovative solutions for refinement and improvement of Platform Engineering deliverables.
- Establish cross-functional relationships across business and technical leads, architects, and product owners to ensure alignment with business goals and enterprise-level architectural standards.
- Lead project feasibility, project costing and project planning activities to meet business needs.
- Ownership in building and operating the infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of enterprise software applications
- Build and manage production and pre-production environments with access control and security frameworks
- Work directly with agile application development teams to provide daily support aligned with a model of Continuous Integration/Delivery
- Manage the release pipelines working with Product, Software Engineering and PMO teams.
- Develop and execute automated solutions and tools to monitor and support our software development and release processes
- Bring out the best ideas from the team by empowering them and leading by example
- Apply industry standards, best practices, and principles to build systems/tools that deliver optimal outcomes across multiple products and platforms.
- Provide technical competency for selection of tools, approaches, and strategies to challenge the status quo and ensure perpetual quality improvement of the platforms.
As a Manager, Platform Engineering you are adept at understanding system architecture, design, and implementation of Infrastructure to help build software products meeting regulatory standards. You have the aptitude to work on multiple projects with overlapping schedules, quickly learn new technologies, demonstrate teamwork and technical leadership. You seek feedback and integrate it in a professional manner. In addition, you bring:
- B.S or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related study or equivalent project experience.
- 2+ years of managing SRE/ Platform Engineering teams
- 5+ years of Systems/Applications automation in 24x7 Production Service environments
- 5+ years of operating on public cloud (both PaaS and IaaS offerings) experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery concepts, including Infrastructure as code utilizing tools like Terraform, Jenkins, etc.
- 3+ years of experience in development and operation of software products in the healthcare and life science industries. This includes securing protected healthcare Information (PHI) in various environments
- Strong expertise in Security for PaaS/ SaaS offering
- Strong sense of ownership, customer service, and integrity demonstrated through clear communication and positive action
- Demonstrated strong project management skills
- Fluency with one or more current generation scripting languages
- Excellent troubleshooter, utilizing a systematic problem-solving approach
- Expert in Containerization concepts like Docker, and PaaS services on any public cloud
- Experience with elastically scalable, fault tolerance and other cloud architecture patterns
- Demonstrated strength in PaaS/ SaaS services, experience in massive scale web operations
- Experience in identifying, analyzing, and narrowing down system performance issues and performing root cause analysis.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to support delivery of software releases in frequent cycles using agile methodology.
- Experience working in a regulated environment (CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, SOX, 21 CFR Part 11, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, and other FDA regulations) is desired.
- Working experience in MuleSoft platform is a plus.
Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We have found aligning our scheduled in-office days allows our teams to do the best work and creates the focused thinking time our innovative work requires. At Guardant, our work model has created flexibility for better work-life balance while keeping teams connected to advance our science for our patients.
For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000 to $270,000. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.
Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
