Job Description

As a PMO Manager at Cook Children's, you will be a contributing IT professional within the Project Management family. The PMO Manager plays a critical role in the coordination and completion of IT projects within the Cook Children's Health Care System. The PMO Manager is a responsible for program, portfolio, and project management as the needs of the organization requires. In addition to this, the PMO Manager has direct management responsibilities over project managers that report to them. Ensuring that their project managers are following PMO processes as adopted by the organization. The PMO Manager will work closely with other IT teams and operational stakeholders to ensure programs and projects are delivered completely within scope and on time. The PMO Manager must have excellent organization and communication skills and have experience in working with team members of different groups to achieve quality results in a timely manner. Additionally, the PMO Manager is expected to lead and complete high visibility internal process improvement initiatives as assigned.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Manage daily PMO operations and staff • Oversee development and performance of project managers • Collaborate with IS stakeholders to roadmap and plan programs or portfolios of projects • Collaborate interdepartmentally to understand project scope, requirements, and success criteria • Work with IS and Operational stakeholders to prioritize projects within their portfolios/programs • Understanding dependencies of projects within their portfolios and impacts on projects outside of their purview • Analysis of capacity & demand of resourcing needs • Utilizing PMO Playbook and PMBOK best practices and process/knowledge areas to effectively manage and complete projects • Managing the development or direct creation of standard project artifacts and their updates as necessary (Project Charter, Project Resourcing/Staffing, WBS/Project Schedule, Requirements documentation, status reporting, presentations, communication plan, risk/issue registry, lessons learned, close out documentation, and others as required) • Scope management and project change management • PPM/Project Management tool updates for assigned projects • Managing risks/issues and escalating as necessary • Guide and direct project team members to ensure compliance with set standards, procedures, and guidelines • Evaluate the progress of a project to detect limitations or faults to seek solutions • Successfully manage multiple initiatives simultaneously • Stakeholder management • Project portfolio management • Act as an escalation point for project managers • Mentorship and training of project managers • Lead internal PMO process improvement initiatives • Assist in annual budgeting and portfolio planning activities.

Qualifications:

  • Position requires 10 years or more of direct experience.
  • 8 or more years working within a PMO.
  • Position requires 3 years of more of experience with EHR systems.
  • Position requires 2 years or more of experience working with Epic Application Modules.
  • Experience with software systems' implementation lifecycle.
  • Experience in Waterfall project management methodology or, Agile methodology experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, and other subject matter experts.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize work, manage time and respond effectively to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound political and environmental judgment as appropriate to support successful project implementation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in assessing and mitigating risks through risk planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong work ethic and a team-player attitude with a deep commitment to customer satisfaction

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification

  • PMP Certification required Certification
  • CSM Certification a plus
