Manager - Private Equity

Nokia Investment Management Corporation ("NIMCO"), a subsidiary of Nokia, employs a 25-member staff with strong backgrounds in investments, financial management, and pension fund administration. NIMCO is responsible for the general supervision of the pension plans, the 401(k) plans and certain other benefit assets of Nokia. NIMCO maintains offices in Boston, Massachusetts and in Murray Hill, New Jersey.

General Summary:
This position, located in Boston, provides an opportunity for an individual with the appropriate qualifications to join the NIMCO Private Equity team which oversees the private equity portfolio in the U.S. Pension Plans.

The candidate is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the policies, procedures and programs related to NIMCO's global private equity portfolio. The candidate will report to the Senior Manager of Private Equity and Director, Investments and will work closely with members of the private equity team to develop the investment guidelines and strategy necessary to achieve the private equity portfolio's policy objectives.

The candidate will perform all stages of due diligence for new and existing relationships, oversee the internal private equity systems and performance databases, compile and manage a variety of reports and assist in the development of the portfolio's tactical and strategic strategies.

In addition, the candidate will interact with NIMCO's Chief Investment Officer and other members of the NIMCO team. This individual will work closely with NIMCO's investment operations and compliance staff and the Master Pension Trust's trustee/custody bank to ensure proper performance measurement. This person may also have contact with the members of the Pension Benefits Investment Committee. Externally, the candidate will interface extensively with private equity general partners along with internal and external counsel.

Responsibilities:

• Make recommendations to the Senior Manager, Private Equity regarding all aspects of the private equity portfolio.
• Strive to achieve long-term performance targets within acceptable risk parameters.
• Make recommendations to the President of NIMCO and Director, Investments regarding new investments with existing and potentially new managers.
• Assist in the development of strategic and tactical asset allocation strategies within the Private Equity portfolio including sub-asset class ranges.
• Monitor private equity general partners and partnerships in the portfolio on an on-going basis and provide updates and recommendations to the Senior Manager, Private Equity on the recommended course of action. The oversight includes periodic due diligence visits with each manager and other meetings as required.
• Manage the asset allocation model and provide periodic updates on key findings
• Oversee the quarterly and PBIC reporting processes ensuring accurate completion of data and slides by the Analyst
• Maintain knowledge of global macro and micro economic conditions and capital markets to justify investment recommendations.
• Review financial reports and other documents to monitor the performance of the private equity partnerships in the portfolio.
• Help negotiate key business and legal terms.
• Support the refinement of analytical tools for monitoring performance, risk reporting, and cash forecasting.
• Work as part of a team to implement best operational practices and a high-performance culture.

Key Selection Criteria:

1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, economics, finance, or closely-related field required.
2. Minimum of 5 years private equity investment experience acquired through private markets investing (LP role and/or principal investor).
3. Evidence of ability to think creatively.
4. Well-honed investment instincts and a thoughtful, disciplined approach to private equity investing.
5. Strong work ethic.
6. Ability to travel domestically and internationally to attend annual meetings and due diligence meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in finance/business related field and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation.

7. Good financial modeling skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
