This Manager, Product Management Staff - P&C position will be responsible for leading the Work Comp Staff Product organization for Standard Commercial. The team you will lead includes:
- Five Product Managers who lead projects, rate reviews, compliance and regulatory work, support the Field and Underwriting organizations, defect management, and a number of other activities.
- A Supervisor, 2 Policy Reporting associates, and 5 Unit Stat Reporting associates who actively partner with Product, Claims, E&S, NWAG, and various Insurance Departments.
In addition to managing the Work Comp product and leading a successful team, this role will also partner closely with the other LOBs to support the broader PolicyCenter platform and ongoing CL initiative prioritization.
Prior exposure to leading people OR the Work Comp line of business are required.
The compensation grade for this role is G3. The person in this role may work from one of Nationwide's office locations, but remote work is also an option.

The Manager, Product Management leads a team of associates that recommends the development of additional product features and capabilities. Designs, manages, and implements project work plans for new business or new implementation. Teams will often consist of multiple product lines (Casualty, Property, etc) and will be responsible for countrywide product activities. You will negotiate with region(s) regarding product and pricing features. Synchronize all related functional areas related to product design, pricing, and management. You'll be responsible for the implementation of regulatory and other compliance mandate changes with accountability for leveraging tools and platforms to attain efficiencies across the area of responsibility.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews pricing, design features, and associated processes. Implements growth and profitability strategies. May review reserving with actuarial.
- Provides leadership to all functional areas related to product design and management. Makes recommendations based on in-depth functional knowledge and opportunities for improvement. Functions as a mentor and facilitates leader development.
- Develops and drives key initiatives on product strategy and profitability. Coordinates product strategy with sales, agency management, and marketing.
- Leads the coordination, development, and implementation of new product training.
- Guides the exploration, sponsoring, and evaluation process of new product performance tools and technology enhancements. Accountable for the quality and effectiveness of rate change and system enhancement implementations. Coordinates process change improvements. May provide input to appropriate functional areas to develop business specifications.
- Leads the rate review and communication process for assigned state(s) and products across all functional areas. Coordinates product recommendation implementations. Initiates action plans to improve and/or maintain product performance. Ensures underwriting guidelines aligns with rate plan changes and corporate strategy.
- Designs and implements state level product strategy and communication plans throughout the organization. Assures effective communication to appropriate product leaders and functional areas of the organization.
- Proactively seeks out opportunities to interact with other business partners while developing cross functional knowledge in claims, sales, marketing, pricing, operations, underwriting, and finance. Recommends cross functional developmental for direct reports. Acts as a mentor to business partners.
- Responsible for the management of associates including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director or Officer; Four to six direct reports
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Experience: Six years experience in personal lines/commercial lines insurance, financial services, marketing, or communications including two years previous product management experience.
Education: Undergraduate studies such as insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, risk management, economics, finance, accounting, business administration or related field. MBA preferred. Insurance licenses or designations such as CPCU, ACAS, ARM, CLU, FLMI, ChFC, CFP, NASD etc preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: In-depth knowledge of analytical tools, core business functions, underwriting policies and best practices, performance measurement techniques, and systems required. Knowledge of related pricing, marketing, insurance models/contracts, and financial analysis necessary. Excellent verbal and written communications necessary to effectively influence, train others, present information, communicate with management, agents, and policy holders. Must be skilled in the use of related systems and analytical tools. Ability to drive for results, deal with ambiguity, solve problems, learn on the fly, make decisions, see trends/patterns within regions necessary. Excellent project management skills necessary.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Nationwide pays based on a geographic-specific salary structure. The range for this role in Ithaca, New York is$79,000.00 - $163,000.00
