Manager, Product Operations, Level II

The mission of the Hearst Newspapers Product Development team is to create exceptional product experiences that balance editorial and business needs while serving our local community of readers.The HNP Product Development Team consists of engineers, dev ops, qa, product management, ux research, design, and product operations functions, and is organized into nine cross functional teams that serve end users, internal users, and revenue goals.

The Product Operations teamis broadly responsible for how the Product Development team operates, on time scales ranging from long-term strategic planning to daily stand ups. The mission of Product Operations is to drive innovative problem-solving and scalable solutions as they relate to people, process and tools, in support of outcome-driven teams. We strive to improve the understanding, visibility, consistency, compassion, and efficiency with which our team works, to drive outcomes that meaningfully move our business forward.

About You

As the successful candidate for the Manager, Product Operations role, you are motivated by a powerful desire to improve team culture and functioning.

  • You support team performance as measured by product outcomes, time-to-market, team morale, and partner visibility and satisfaction.
  • You are familiar with Agile methodologies and have a toolbox of tricks to help get a team from point A to point B.
  • You understand what it means to be "outcome-driven" - are laser-focused on goals, and are familiar with the basics of analytics and measurement as they relate to digital media and software development teams.
  • You are detail-oriented and organized, with strong executive functioning.
  • You are a strong and empathetic communicator, both verbally and in writing, and an effective facilitator of team rituals and meaningful problem-solving conversations.
  • You have substantive experience with product development, and may come from a project management, product, operations, or analyst role.
  • You really enjoy problem-solving with and for people, and you know how to have fun at work.
  • You are confident collaborating with a team of Product Operations specialists to define and refine the product operations practice.
  • You have 5 to 7 years of experience in product operations

Job Responsibilities

  • Own project management support for one or more cross-functional product development teams.
  • Contribute to manage logistics, team, culture, morale, budget, and overall success of the product development team.
  • Support cadences for strategic, quarterly and project planning, resource allocation, budget tracking, and intra- and cross-team communications.
  • Support internal product marketing for product and feature releases.
  • Support the operational side of data democracy and outcome visibility, including team dashboards, feature- or release- specific reporting, test planning, satisfaction benchmarking, and contribution to our research repository.
  • Support use of productivity tools and practices across the product development team, including evaluation, rollout, administration, and support.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $125,000 and $135,000and is bonus eligible

Location - NYC hybrid preferred, but open to remote in states that are approved by Hearst Newspapers: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, IL, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, SC, OH, TN, TX, VA AND WA.
