AES Clean Energy (AES CE) is currently seeking a Manager, Project Development to lead project development efforts as a member of AES CE's WECC Project Development team. The successful candidate will lead and manage project development efforts on AES CE's WECC solar, solar+storage and standalone storage projects after origination/queue filings and through to construction commencement. This is a fast-paced role working with internal and external key stakeholders and will provide immediate exposure to all aspects of renewable project development.

This position will be based in Louisville, Colorado at the AES CE Headquarters and reports to the Sr. Manager, Project Development, for WECC - New Mexico. A remote location may be considered for the right candidate, or one that currently resides in New Mexico. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects and requires travel as needed. The successful candidate will work on a cross functional team with land acquisition, commercial, project development, real estate, permitting, legal, finance, engineering, procurement, construction, and outside consultants, landowners, customers, project stakeholders and utility companies. The role requires project development and project management experience and deep renewable energy industry experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of development for AES CE solar, solar+storage, and standalone storage projects in WECC - New Mexico as assigned from after origination through to construction commencement.
  • Create and manage project development schedules and budgets.
  • Lead project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage contract obligations in key project documents.
  • Work with internal permitting team to secure Project Discretionary Permitting including permit strategy, tracking permit efforts, working with local AHJs and presenting at permit hearings.
  • Coordinate for delivery of site environmental studies, surveys and diligence reports.
  • Work with internal real estate team to coordinate for delivery of ALTA Surveys and Title Reports.
  • Work with internal interconnection team to support Interconnection process from Interconnection Application through to Interconnection Agreements.
  • Work with internal and external Engineering teams as they progress engineering and design.
  • Work with internal construction management team on contractor selection process.
  • Coordinate with construction management team on securing ministerial building permits.
  • Handoff projects once fully developed and permitted to construction management team.
  • Participate in project financings answering relevant diligence questions and providing required documents.
  • Coordinate additional resources or outside consultants/contractors as well as managing and meeting expenses throughout project development.
  • Apply critical thinking needed to communicate and influence employees at all levels regarding project risks, opportunities, and recommended action.
  • Provide support and analysis for Project Development pipeline reporting.
  • Assist the Strategic Development team as needed and applicable on upfront new pipeline origination efforts.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 5 (five) years of project management and/or development experience in solar energy, storage or related field. Utility-scale project development experience a plus.
  • Knowledge or experience working in the WECC market, or New Mexico specifically.
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in engineering, project/construction management, business/economics, environmental science, or equivalent.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge of solar project development, utilities, interconnection, permitting and contracting.
  • Extensive knowledge of renewable energy technologies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required including public speaking and/or platform skills for executive management presentations.
  • Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-20% on average but more as required by projects.
  • Energy storage knowledge a plus.
  • Experience utilizing CRM systems and developing metrics.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, QuickBase, Box, Microsoft Teams, MS Project
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities n a fast-paced environment.
  • Passionate for taking a leading role in the clean energy economy transition

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $110,000 and $144,500/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
