What You Will Do

The Johnson Controls manager, public relations (PR) for Global Products will provide strategic PR expertise to an exciting smart building technologies business helping to fight climate change. In this role within the marketing organization, you will be responsible for creating strategic, earned media plans to drive media coverage of key business initiatives and lead crisis communications planning and responses for our global manufacturing facilities. Reporting to the director of public relations and media, this role supports the Global Products business, strategy and marketing teams.

The individual in this role will have strong writing skills, serve as a company spokesperson and develop and successfully conduct public relations programs to reach global audiences. They will effectively collaborate with regional PR leads and company colleagues around the world to assure that programs and messages work together in support of the corporate, regional and Global Products strategy.

Major areas of responsibilities include driving content and messaging to promote products and services to both new and existing customers; brainstorming, creating and maintaining critical communications plans; developing relationships with key media; flawless execution; project management; and event and thought leadership support.

How you will do it

  • Lead external and internal resources in development of PR programs, thought leadership, speakers' bureau and third-party stakeholder outreach for assigned business/products in support of the Global Products PR strategic plan
  • Monitor, measures and helps to analyze PR programs' impact on the Global Products reputation and associated business development; be curious about the news cycle and how we can identify conversations to news jack
  • Work with PR agencies and vendors to initiate and execute on projects, including news releases, press conferences, trade shows, customer events where media is involved; host monthly collaboration call with agency partners to ensure we are sharing messages with all audiences
  • Write, edit and proofread materials ensuring quality, consistency and company messaging are woven throughout each piece
  • Run multiple projects and ensure all deadlines are met; maintain an editorial calendar
  • Collaborate with social media, brand, internal communications and global marketing teams
  • Partner with the communications leader for sustainability to demonstrate how Johnson Controls products and services help customers achieve net zero goals
  • Use a multi-channel approach to figure out the best channel mix to reach target audiences and build brand and leadership awareness
  • Serve as backup to the director of public relations and media
  • Other duties as assigned

What We Look For

Required

  • 6-8 years of B2B public relations experience with a consistent record of successful earned media campaigns; great writing skills, a strong grasp of AP style and an analytical approach.
  • Strong writer, demonstrable experience in project and collaborator management, media training and presentation skills with strong interpersonal abilities
  • Critical thinker with a strong presence; ability to partner across functions and gain the trust of senior leaders; and ability to translate complex technical and business subjects into captivating content
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, matrixed environment

Preferred

  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience with Cision, Critical Mention and PR Newswire
  • Based in Milwaukee/Chicago
