Job Summary

Position is responsible for developing, coordinating, facilitating, and implementing policies, short term goals, and long term goals to ensure that coding functions are in compliance with official guidelines. In addition, this role is responsible directing and managing customer service and handling patient complaints.Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelors Degree preferred or a combination of relevant education/training and experience

Licenses/Certifications: Current Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification preferred

Experience / Knowledge / Skills: 

  • Five (5) years of broad based experience in revenue cycle operations preferably in medical group practice or healthcare industry

  • Two (2) years of progressive management/leadership skills required

  • Management experience in revenue cycle operations, including coding and increasing patient experience

  • Experience working with third party payers including analyzing reimbursements

  • Experience with revenue cycle systems and customer service initiatives

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; demonstrated planning and organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize; and strong time management skills

  • Able to present information publicly

  • Strong interpersonal, customer-oriented skills

  • Strong technical acumen and proficient in Microsoft Office software (specifically Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Must be able to travel to all Medical Group current and future locations

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Principal Accountabilities

  • Develops, facilitates, and implements policies, procedures, productivity standards and training documents to ensure accurate and compliant coding and excellence in customer service.

  • Manages the activities of the customer service team and day-to-day coding bill hold resolution, coding education.

  • Develops short and long term plan for physician coding education, utilizing all tools available to obtain best practice results for accurate coding and low levels of “non-covered services” and other coding denials.

  • Communicates on a regular basis with Director, Physician Practice PBS, Medical Group operations, and ISD to resolve root causes that create obstacles for timely coding accurate billing and patient complaints received in customer service.

  • Manage coding functions in accordance with the coding conventions and official coding guidelines approved by CMS, AHIMA, AHA and NCHS.

  • Reviews the assignment of ICD-9/ICD-10/CPT4 codes as necessary.

  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
