Manager - Software and Data Engineering
Job Description
At ISRM Product Security, we want to make security frictionless for every engineer. As manager of Security Software Engineering, you will be focused on leading a small expert team made up of both software and data engineers working on code and platforms that power both our ISRM organization as well as feed our technology organizations.
For this role, we still expect strong hands-on proficiency. A successful candidate will be self-driven and have expertise in software development and data engineering, alongside up-to-date Site Reliability knowledge. The technical facet of the role does not hinder having strong people management and communications skills sided by excellent analytical and organizational skills.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Manager - Software and Data Engineering, you will:
- Plan and manage the team's deliverables, keeping our scrumban board optimized to deliver the expected value. We expect up to 40% hands-on work from the manager as well.
- Drive roadmaps and prioritization, lead the development of our most critical Product Security applications, providing security by design and by default, as well as insights and self-service to our product teams.
- Drive and implement value-added solutions and follow up with business leaders and/or stakeholders to ensure expectations are met. Creates and delivers presentations/demos.
- Oversee and work on workflow automation, sets of secure libraries, CI templates, IDE plugins or issue trackers extensions to further adoption of security at scale.
- Own and be accountable for our ISRM data platform availability, reliability, and scalability.
- Understands and promote data quality and lineage processes, aiming for error-free processes, driving lower data risk; Ensure top-notch data dictionaries/documentation.
- Team up with our application security team on software supply chain security endeavors.
- Participate in developing software development/data engineering guidelines and documentation.
- Provides technical or general guidance to team members as well as across teams in area of subject matter expertise by possessing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline or area.
- Foster a positive and secure engineering culture, grow and nurture the team on top of the more traditional people related tasks.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Manager - Software and Data Engineering, if your background includes:
- 5+ years managing a team backed by 5+ previous years as a software developer in Golang (preferred) and JavaScript (frontend - mainly VueJS) or equivalent experience in the data engineering field or as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE).
- Experience in developing robust, scalable and well-documented APIs.
- Working proficiency in building (secure) CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and/or AWS CodePipeline.
- Working proficiency leveraging and operating the AWS services such as (but not limited to) IAM, SQS, S3, Lambdas, DynamoDB, RDS, EKS, and EC2.
- Working proficiency with structured and semi-structured databases such as Snowflake, and Data Workflow Management tools like Apache AirFlow.
- Working proficiency building infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform.
- All things as-code mindset to expand to adjacent security teams.
- In-depth understanding of software development methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge on quality assurance practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding and experience in dealing with secrets management (within engineering context) and Privileged Access Management workflows a plus (e.g., SailPoint).
- Hands-on security engineering or application security experience a plus.
- Deep understanding of OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities, and how best to mitigate vulnerabilities in code we produce.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred.
