In Customer/Carrier engineering we build and maintain experiences that span signup, search, booking, tracking, and payments that are used every day by CHR's 75,000+ carrier partners to expedite commerce across the world. Your solutions will help drive growth and efficiency for our carriers and CHR.

As the Manager of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for leading and managing teams that create complex software solutions in our application platform and or integrate 3rd party software into an existing platform. You will partner with business and technology leaders to align on business strategy, define technology strategy, build, and maintain product roadmaps, and deliver technology solutions that help C.H. Robinson delight our customers and supply chain partners. This Manager will lead multiple teams working on different projects and must delegate effectively through team leaders while staying close to the details of each initiative. You will be responsible for providing written and verbal reporting on project status to all levels of the organization and will focus on problem areas and removing obstacles for each of their teams.

This position may be in Eden Prairie/Minneapolis, Seattle, Kansas City or Chicago.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead 2 engineering teams that focuses on Order Visibility, External Tracking and IOT
  • Collaborate with product owners to help build and execute the product roadmap.
  • Build trust with team and enable them to perform at their best.
  • Be a change agent to help implement the organizational decisions.
  • Make data driven decision to effectively execute the project.
  • Pursues continuous improvement of processes to eliminate waste.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguities and help prioritize tasks.
  • Helps unblock team's challenges by collaborating with other engineering leaders, product and design.
  • Define and communicate strategy to achieve business objectives while ensuring product stability and scalability.
  • Engage and assist other teams in high priority incidents.
  • Follow enterprise goals around HPI's (critical/major outages)
  • Encourage creativity, promote collaboration without boundaries, and ensure delivery of our objectives.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition to establish a pipeline, recruit, select, and onboard qualified and diverse talent.
  • Aligns teams' passion with their potential and commits to consistently providing feedback, development opportunities and recognition.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience working on a software engineering team progressing in complexity and responsibility.
  • 3+ years managing team(s)
  • Experience delivering business critical software functionality.
  • Experience working in a product-led organization and applying lean principles to product development.
  • Experience working in large scale distributed applications.
  • Experience working in AWS/AZURE/GCP
  • Experience delivering software in an agile environment.
  • Experience managing a variety of systems integrations, including custom and COTS technologies utilizing APIs.
  • Experience communicating status and shaping strategy with a senior leadership audience.
  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 4 years of equivalent work experience and a high school diploma/GED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in computer science/software engineering or human-Computer Interaction
  • Experience with ERP, TMS, Supply Chain Management or Retail systems
  • Experience building IOT systems.
  • Experience with architectural concepts such as Domain Driven Design and SOLID principles
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (domestically and internationally)
  • Strong strategic orientation/planning, business savvy, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate broad impacts of work.
  • Effective and flexible communication skills with the ability to articulate complex solutions in a relatable way and ability to communicate project plans and timeline deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to build trust, influence, and foster relationships with diverse team members; ability to leverage relationships to drive consistency of approach and ensure delivery.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to connect the work the team is doing to strategic business priorities.
  • Experience leading through change and resolving conflict.
