About the Opportunity
Higher education customers are transforming to modern campuses while leveraging technology and solutions to enable student success. We are seeking a Manager, Software Engineering, who can both lead a highly skilled team and be hands-on in actively building and maintaining the solutions to join our Institutional Operations Engineering team. You will be responsible for people management, technical guidance, solution design, and proofs of concept based on customer needs showcasing Ellucian product capabilities by delivering world-class, customer-focused SaaS solutions for higher education.
This is a high impact role collaborating with Product Management to align the team's priorities based upon product roadmap commitments. You will have a keen eye for sound lifecycle patterns, minimizing debt, and delivering high-quality incremental value for stakeholder review. You will mentor team members, initiate process improvements, manage performance, and inspire each team member to achieve success. You should have solid experience working in an agile environment and technical expertise in building innovative SaaS products. Your strong communication skills will enable your success when collaborating with clients, partners, and internal teams. You will be working on Colleague HR ERP and support Ellucian's strategy of accelerating customers' journey to the Ellucian Managed Cloud service and SaaS. Where you will make an impact
- Provide guidance and leadership for roadmap commitments, development goals, milestones, progress, and quality.
- Ensure adherence to product development processes, guidelines, and architectural strategy.
- Remove impediments for the development team.
- Manage definition and capturing of data to provide adequate measures of progress on delivery goals and quality.
- Work closely with numerous product teams to coordinate support for initiatives, upgrades, technical currency.
- Collaborate with technical staff and functional staff to enable cooperation across the other business units and drive to a successful outcome.
- Conduct performance reviews, salary reviews, and provide individual coaching and mentoring to facilitate an environment for learning and growth.
What you will bring
- 10+ years of in-depth experience in a software development environment in a technical development role.
- 2+ years leading and managing a software development team in a direct manager capacity.
- Experience with and the ability to discuss any or all technical topics related to software development technologies and skills such as .NET, C#, JSON, HTML5, CSS, JSS, JavaScript, jQuery, React, NodeJS, AWS, WCAG/Accessibility, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with DevOps processes such as CI/CD (Jenkins), and source control such as TFS or Git/BitBucket.
- Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
- Experience with all phases of software development.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work in a highly distributed team environment.
- Results oriented with a relentless focus on operation excellence and execution.
- Curiosity and passion for learning, ability to learn fast on new products and technologies.
Additional Skills / Knowledge / Experience
- Experience with Higher Education is a plus.
- Experience with Cloud/SaaS solutions is a plus.
- Experience with Colleague and/or Banner is a plus.
