Manager, Software Engineering - Operating Platform

We are currently seeking a Software Engineering Manager to join our Data Acquisition Engineering team. Data Acquisition is part of the broader Operating Platform at Addepar. The platform has responsibility for data acquisition, storage, conversion, cleansing, disambiguation, modeling, tooling, infrastructure, and provisioning of client portfolio, market, account, and reference data. The platform provides an ingestion mechanism on which the Addepar-as-a-multi-product strategy can be executed. The operating platform is the single source of truth for data within Addepar and includes a centralized and self-describing repository (aka Data Lake), a set of API-driven data services, an integration pipeline, analytics infrastructure, warehousing solutions, and operating tools.

Addepar’s core business relies on us being able to quickly and correctly ingest data from a variety of sources, including 3rd party data providers, custodial banks, data APIs, and even direct user input. As the software engineering manager for this team, you will lead the development of new microservices and maintenance of existing services globally in order to dramatically increase the throughput of data ingestion for Addepar. You’ll be building components within the data pipeline that automate the cleansing and transformation steps. As you gain more experience, you’ll contribute to increasingly challenging engineering projects within our broader operating platform. This is a crucial, highly visible role within the company. Your team is a big component of growing and serving Addepar’s client base with minimal manual effort required from our clients or from our internal data operations team.

• Serve as a "player/coach" who will contribute to and supervise a team of Software Engineers in Edinburgh
• Lead, oversee, and establish new team and workflows autonomously
• Collaborate with overseas teams to write code and design pipeline architecture
• Develop and maintain effective process controls and accurate metrics to ensure quality standards and organizational expectations are met
• Partner with members of Product and Engineering to design, test, and implement new processes and tooling features that improve data quality as well as increase operational efficiency
• Manage the onboarding, mentorship, and career development of individuals on the team through timely and effective performance feedback and by providing learning and growth opportunities
• Lead the team to accomplish goals that are aligned with the organization’s business and culture objectives and hold self and everyone accountable for meeting expectations
• Identify areas of automation opportunities and implement improvements
• Understand data models and schemas, and work with other engineering staff to recommend extensions and changes

• University graduate with a computer science degree or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of knowledge / experience in software engineering, 2.5+ years of leading and mentoring teams
• Experience with object-oriented programming, modern data structures and algorithms
• Experience working with global teams across different countries and timezones
• Experience with leading teams, cross-functional projects, and learning and development initiatives
• Knowledge of SQL or relational database concepts
• Interest in data modeling, visualization, and ETL pipelines
• Knowledge of financial concepts (e.g., stocks, bonds, etc.) is encouraged but not necessary
• Passion for the finance and technology space and solving previously intractable problems at the heart of investment management
