Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Technology & Transfer (MTT) team is a part of Global Operations and has responsibility for the design, development and support of custom and configured product manufacturing software. We are looking for an exceptional leader to join & lead the Software Test Engineering team. This team tests the software that powers all aspects of Illumina's global manufacturing facilities - from precise machine control to our powerful integrated analytics. This role fills a critical leadership position in the organization, and the successful candidate must have extensive experience in leading software test engineering teams, creating and driving detailed planning and design, and representing software in cross-functional teams. The role is responsible for people management of the team of software test engineers, including staffing, performance management, and development of those resources. The environment requires delivery of complex components to challenging timelines, so this leader must be able to achieve high levels of efficiency and coordination, motivating their team and working effectively with senior management to ensure that critical projects are delivered on time.

Responsibilities:
  • The Quality of software released by the software team.
  • Fill the people-management role of the software test engineers, including staffing, performance management, coaching, task assignment, training, and development.
  • Ensure the team's compliance with relevant development, compliance and functional processes
  • Promote and drive innovation in technologies, processes, and tools for cutting-edge software development
  • Actively work with key stakeholders throughout the project to collate, collect and communicate product input requirements
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with other members of the organization in a very fast paced environment.
  • Drive efforts in designing, performing, and improving verification tests.
  • Creating and maintaining a roadmap for continuous improvements for all test activities.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and evaluate applicability of new software testing technologies.
  • Define and track test metrics, including code coverage, quality, and performance.
  • Participate in software requirement and design reviews.
  • Allocate test resources to software projects.
  • Make decisions that impact the team through regular consultation with senior management.
  • Adhere to strategic direction set by senior management.


Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in the software verification and testing field.
  • 3+ years of direct people management
  • Knowledge of agile scrum methodologies and experience in using those methods to test and deliver complex software components.
  • Experience with SOA, REST, SOAP
  • Experience with Java, and/or C#
  • CI/CD tool such as Git, Jenkins, Artifactory, Sonarcube, JIRA
  • Experience with Software Test Automation frameworks such as Selenium or Ranorex
  • Knowledge of SQL and relational databases
  • Proven skills for writing verification plan, protocol, report and all aspects of documentation required for formally releasing a software product.


Preferred:
  • Experience operating, testing, and supporting SW for instrumentation.
  • Experience with Visual Studio, Eclipse, Ranorex, Azure DevOps.
  • Experience working in an FDA regulated environment for Medical Devices.
  • Experience and understanding of basic automated manufacturing systems, tools and components (electrical and pneumatic control, sensors, metrology systems, PLCs).
  • Practical knowledge of manufacturing automation such as MES & SCADA.
  • Experience with machine to machine protocols, OPC UA, TCP/IP
  • Experience in biotech, as is experience with testing software to FDA clinical standards.
  • Experience with GAMP 5 and 21 CFR Part 11.


Education:
  • Bachelor or master's degree (or higher) in Computer Science or related field, or with equivalent experience.
