JOB DESCRIPTION
The ideal candidate will be local to a UL Solutions location (Chicago, Austin, Raleigh, Kansas City, Plano, Atlanta)
As a member of the Energy & Industrial Automation Strategy & Portfolio Innovation team, you will have global responsibility for devising and executing global growth strategy, from sourcing acquisitions to the integration of targets across Energy and Industrial Automation. You will conduct market scans to identify, analyze, and plan for M&A opportunities based on disruptive trends transforming the business. You will originate M&A transactions related to testing, inspection and certification services tied to energy transition. Acquisition targets often offer TIC services related to products, systems and assets related to power utilities, distributed energy resources, electric vehicles and power infrastructure. You will serve as an advisor to the senior leadership team and support the business leaders.

Within our Energy and Industrial Automation (EIA), we provide solutions for safety, security, and performance throughout the energy, power distribution and, automation value chains. We work in a diversity of cutting-edge industries, such as: Power and Automation, Renewable Energy, Field Evaluation Services and Industrial Functional Safety. The impact of our work spreads through many business areas on a global scale yet focused locally through our collaborative team members.

- Lead global strategy and deal origination activities across the Energy and Industrial Automation portfolio, focusing on M&A pipeline development and leading strategic narrative with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead and build working relationships with potential acquisition targets, investment bankers, and private equity active in the energy and industrial automation sector.
- Work across Energy and Industrial Automation leadership on the management and development of strategy plans.
- Lead Long-Range Planning activities, including strategy and new solution development.
- Work cross-functionally across the Strategy & Portfolio Innovation team to advance priority projects.
- Gather market intelligence in your scouting trips and interfaces with external stakeholders.
- Champions an engaged, inclusive, and attractive work environment for UL employees with a winning culture.
- Perform global market scans with a long-term view. Analyzes and interprets market research and intelligence to identify growth opportunities.
- Conduct industry, market, competitive, & stakeholder intelligence research & analyses.
- Research possible growth opportunities related to new business services, new science/technology, and new industries.
- Provide M&A and growth area recommendations to the leadership team. Drives the development of strategic plans for the opportunities selected for further pursuits.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or another related field; master's degree in business administration from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- Minimum of eight years of work experience in M&A strategy discipline in the energy and industrial automation at a major strategy, boutique strategy, or a Big 4 consulting firm
- Significant experience focused on energy and industry automation, helping corporations or private equity firms conduct a thorough analysis of potential acquisition targets, including assessing the market landscape (structure, size and profitability, drivers of performance, trends, outlook), the target's competitive position (competitive landscape, target's relative financial performance, target's relative offer position), and the viability of the target's revenue and profit forecast and client's investment thesis.
- Strong business acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills and understanding of how business model decisions impact performance.
- Comfort with ambiguity and market dynamics and ability to work in a fast-paced deal environment; travel varies with client assignments.
- Applicants must be permanently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
