Manager, Team Manager- R&A
Job Description
Gartner is searching for a Manager, Team Manager to join our global Peer and Practitioner Research pillar in the finance practice. This group is responsible for investigating, analyzing and writing to change how senior finance executives approach their most strategic challenges by breaking their frames when they're wrong and building new ones when they don't exist. This team manager will directly lead a team of 4-6 researchers, and indirectly coach a team of 3-5 Talent Lab researchers aligned with the finance practice. They will develop and coach their team to increase their impact on research that teaches senior finance executives how they and their functions should approach their work differently.
What you will do:
- Develop a team of researchers to master their research craft and create great content
- Teach your team Gartner's proven methodology for conducting world-class research that helps identify best practice solutions to many of today's biggest business challenges.
- Coach your team to improve the quality of their ideas as presented verbally, graphically, and in prose. Tailor your coaching to the person and the situation by flexing between teaching methodology, pressure testing, sharing examples, and offering your own ideas.
- Coach your team (including through reinforcing and constructive feedback) to create prose, graphic, and video content that changes how senior executives approach these most strategic challenges
- Review your team's content to assess whether your team's content meets Gartner's teaching bar, providing feedback and editing when necessary to close gaps
- Ensure researchers make exceptional use of secondary research, internal data sources, surveys and interviews with executives, academics, and industry experts to compile evidence that meets senior finance executives' burden of proof
- Manage your team's performance by providing consistent feedback, assessing and communicating progress against goals and competencies, clarifying potential development paths, and collaborating with HR on interventions when appropriate
- Reinforce and improve a collaborative culture focused on pursuing big ideas, spirited and respectful debate, rapid learning, content excellence, and a growth mindset
- Lead implementation of Finance PPR strategic initiatives, including teaching your team the rationale behind Finance PPR's strategy, reinforcing behaviors that align with the strategy, and synthesizing team feedback on the strategy
- Work collaboratively with research leaders, content leaders, team managers, and other practice-aligned teams of quantitative and qualitative researchers across a global finance practice
- Foster an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion and engagement on our team and drive Gartner's commitment to DE&I throughout all aspects of the business: hiring practices, associate development, and client service.
What you will need:
We are looking for creative, analytically strong, articulate, and self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated readiness to manage others to exceptional performance. Some of the shared characteristics of our successful hires include:
- Ability to teach others how to gather, analyze, restructure, identify and create original insights from qualitative and/or quantitative data
- Ability to inspire others to dive deep into a given content terrain to develop expertise and distill key findings.
- Objective approach to feedback and performance assessment that consciously seeks to manage bias
- Receptivity to respectful constructive feedback and ability to thrive in a highly iterative environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with particular attention to precision of language and ability to organize information logically
- Aspiration to constantly learn and improve
- Competence to meet deadlines, multi-task, and manage work under ambiguity (e.g., changing factors, limited information) - and to coach others to do the same
- Ability to navigate a highly matrixed, remote work environment with colleagues across the globe by proactively forming networks
- Bachelor's degree
Experience that, while not necessary, will help you succeed:
- Prior experience attracting, coaching, growing, and managing a high-performing team, formally or informally
- Successful leadership of strategic initiatives
- 7+ years of research experience
- Master's degree
