Manager, Technical Accounting and Tax

The Manager, Technical Accounting and Tax will be responsible for the application and maintenance of accounting standards in compliance with IFRS, management of annual Tax provision and SR&ED tax credit filings and ownership of BlueRock’s Internal Control environment. This role will report to the Director of Accounting and be the subject matter expert on all technical accounting topics. The successful candidate will also be responsible for Month-end/Quarter-end/Year-end close related tasks.

The role will also be expected to partner closely with parties within and beyond the Finance group to understand Bluerock’s Research and Development operations to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of financial results to management.

This is a hands-on managerial position in which the ability to multitask, take initiative, pay meticulous attention to details and work well with others is essential. The successful candidate will be someone who proves to be a strong and multifaceted performer who can meet crucial deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of and maintain a strong and effective Internal Control environment
• Perform technical accounting consultations and resolution of complex accounting transactions.
• Manage General Ledger accounting and the lead aspects of monthly/quarterly/year-end close, including preparing/reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Oversee the analysis of financial due diligence processes to suggest treatment of key collaboration agreements.
• Implement new accounting standards including issuance and updating of corporate accounting policies and procedures.
• Assist in monitoring and maintenance of ERP systems, including managing accounting close processes and deadlines.
• Manage the timely accurate preparation and submission of all provisional Tax related filings
• Participate in preparation of internal and external financial statements.
• Remain current with the latest developments in accounting and financial reporting.
• Contribute to system implementations and other special projects.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 5+ years of accounting experience.
• CPA required
• Experience with the review of the application of IFRS rules to complex technical accounting issues (including collaboration agreements, consolidation, lease, and stock-based compensation accounting)
• Strong Knowledge of IFRS
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and collaborative skills.
• Must be able to make judgment calls regarding the troubleshooting and problem resolutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task on competing and deadline driven priorities.
• Ability to work effectively with all levels in the organization.
• Strong organizational skills and process orientated.
• Biotech experience a preferred.
