Team / Position Overview:

  • This person will manage 1-2 products or services within the Personal Computing Services team.
  • Will be responsible for people leadership and development for a team of 10-16 technical associates.
  • Product/Service Management will include developing roadmaps and backlog prioritization with the DWT PCS Product Owner and delivering and operating services within expected SLAs and OLAs.
  • Overall organization
  • Manager (and peers on the leadership cabinet) is responsible for services associated with 32,000 PCs (Physical and Virtual); OS Engineering, Management and Discovery, Endpoint Security, Asset Management, Request Fulfillment, Operations, and Automation Development (internal systems and tools).

  • People leadership
  • Service Management including collaboration and negotiation with Agile workflow management, with an emphasis on creating an exceptional user experience.

Looking for candidates with technical experience with one or more of these technologies:

  • Software development (Java, C#, Angular) including APIs
  • Windows Systems / Endpoint Management (PowerShell, Microsoft MEM)
  • Tier 3 Technical Support / Operations Management

Hybrid work environment - this position requires onsite presence in Columbus, OH 2-3 times each week.

The Technology Engineering Manager manages a staff of infrastructure engineers who analyze, design, develop and implement hardware/software. You'll determine hardware/software systems requirements; lead systems hardware/software design; plan projects; and establish priorities. You'll also coordinate with other managers to integrate projects with other systems hardware/software. As a people leader, you have responsibility for project deployment, career development, performance management and pay determination. You also may have the opportunity to mentor associates on other teams.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manages a staff that delivers on build and operational (build and run) components for the product(s) aligned to a technology area, such as but not limited to, consulting, managing and development of new products, upgrade/patching efforts, annual budgeting, efficiency efforts, etc. and the function responsible for driving a competitive unit cost through efficient product lifecycle.
  • Leads a team accountable for product delivery and the first line of defense for risk and security management.
  • Assigns and allocates roles, in partnership with the Technology Product Executive, based on capacity and demand (finance, marketing, etc.).
  • Responsible for the design, development, modification and implementation of products and processes to aid in the overall product lifecycle and operational metrics.
  • Manages a staff who is accountable for product management across platforms (on-premise, off-premise and across premises) by providing engineering support for products/processes to improve productivity and reduce cost.
  • Demonstrates user empathy by partnering with user advocates to understand and incorporate user sentiment.
  • Understands and manages team skill maturity in context of effective product management.
  • Oversees vendor management/relationships and sourcing, in collaboration with Technology Product Manager.
  • Drives release cadence and business feature alignment leveraging automation to drive speed and actively drives continuous process improvement activities including Lean, process/product innovation, quality, cost reduction and other initiatives.
  • Leads people through guidance and support on the execution of work; management of associates including but not limited to performance management, salary planning, training, development, workforce planning, hiring, and disciplinary actions; and attracts, hires, engages and develops the team through impactful recruitment, coaching and feedback.
  • Participates in strategic initiatives/planning for core products including products that cross Technologies.
  • Develops and manages project budgets and deployment, including training and development of personnel.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director/AVP, Technology Engineering Manager/Technology Product Manager; responsible for direct management of three or more Technology professionals.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or a related field is strongly preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications or designation are not required, but encouraged (i.e.: AWS, Azure, scripting and development languages, delivery methods, security).

Experience: Eight years knowledge of operational management concepts and techniques. Experience leading multiple teams and assets across various technology platforms. Three years of management experience is preferred. Experience with concepts and solutions: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and package solutions.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of project management concepts and techniques. Extensive knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis concepts and techniques. Ability to develop, implement and present application development strategies.

Must have the ability to manage a staff. Must have strong analytical and decision-making skills. Must possess interpersonal savvy and well-developed leadership ability. Must be able to perform financial and risk analysis. Must possess negotiation skills. Must have strong oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels of associates, senior management and vendors.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.
