Your Role:

Manage, design, develop, implement, test, and calibrate thermal control algorithms for electrical vehicle thermal system including the following vehicle functions: HVAC system, powertrain cooling systems, and HV battery pack systems. Support the testing of thermal buck and HIL test cases of the thermal control model. Lead thermal control design reviews to ensure high quality. Developing diagnostics and fault actions for various thermal subsystems. Conduct performance review and plan staff source with coordination with program and department managers. Prioritize and schedule tasking for thermal control and software on time delivery. Develop and lead a team of engineers to meet schedule requirements, task completion and daily operations defined by program management and product team. Specification and development of requirements related to the thermal control. Developing and performing related testing procedures and performance standards for all FF Vehicles. Develop test plans for validation of thermal software functions including on-vehicle testing. Assigned tasks to software engineers to ensure proper HWIO, CAN/LIN messaging, sleep/wake functionality and OS task implementation in the thermal controller. Interface with cross-functional teams to support thermal control algorithm testing, software testing and validation. Provide feedback and assistance to other systems requiring controls support including powertrain controls development, battery management system development, and drive system development.

Manager, Thermal Controls supervises the work of 6 employees: 3 Thermal Control Engineers; 1 Thermal Control Calibration Engineer; 1 Sr. Thermal Control Engineer; 1 Senior Embedded Software Engineer, BMS.  

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and 4 years of work experience in the job offered or closely related occupation.
  • Must have 4 years of experience in: Digital control implementation, real-time operating systems, embedded hardware and sensors. Thermal control and software working experience with product development in automotive industry.
  • Must possess expertise/ knowledge sufficient to adequately perform the duties of the job being offered. Expertise/ knowledge may be gained through employment experience or education. Such expertise/ knowledge cannot be "quantified" by "time." Required expertise/ knowledge includes:
    • Control and software testing tools including MATLAB, Simulink, CANoe, and CANape.
    • Leading/managing engineering team in automotive industry.
    • Debugging of thermal control algorithms and software.
    • Electric vehicle structure, principles, and vehicle performance.
    • Electric vehicle systems knowledge: High voltage Battery, Traction Inverter, Electric Motor.
    • Thermal systems knowledge: Radiator Fans, Water Pumps, Refrigerant Systems.
    • Coastdown and EPA certification procedures for EV.
    • Vehicle simulation models (performance, range, etc.).
    • ISO26262.  

Annual Salary Range:

($146,619 - $169,000 per year DOE), plus benefits and incentive plans
