Manager, Vehicle Experience

Zoox is building the future of transportation. To do that, we’re also building an incredible crew—united by our mission, energized by our values, and driven by our purpose. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Vehicle Experience team. 

Zoox isn’t an updated car–it’s a whole new form of transportation–designed for AI to drive, and humans to enjoy. In this role, you will lead a team that develops the software that powers a unique and premium vehicle experience that delights our riders.

The Vehicle Experience team is responsible for the software that manages the ride state and orchestrates the rider experience–audio, lighting, vehicle controls and even the infotainment tablets. The software is authored in C++ and runs on the vehicle under resource constraints. The roadmap features impactful projects like streaming music, rider personalization, situational awareness and rider voice control, while consistently working to raise the performance, reliability and quality bar.

In this role, you will:

• Lead your engineer team, create a vision for where you want them to go and a strategy for how to get there.
• Grow your engineering team, push them with new challenges and support them as needed.
• Collaborate with your cross-functional partners in Product Management, Experience Design, Quality Assurance and Technical Program Management to develop and execute an impactful roadmap.
• Partner with your engineering peers in UI, cloud, mobile apps, security and hardware engineering to design and build delightful and engaging end-to-end products and experiences.
• Be curious, ask questions, understand the context of past decisions, while pushing your team, platform and technology forward.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to manage a high-performing software engineering team, including effective hiring and career development.
• Hands-on experience developing applications in C++, Java, Python, or similar languages.
• Expertise in software design and architecture of complex systems, managing resource constraints and ensuring system reliability.
• Track record of collaborating with product management to drive ideas from inception to delivery.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a history of providing technical leadership and support to other teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of robotics, automotive, or embedded device software 
• Experience managing contractors and vendors

There are three major components to compensation for this position: pay, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The pay range for this position is $110,000 to $289,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The pay range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
