Ascend Learning is hiring for a Managing Editor. This role will report to the Director of Learning Products withing the Innovative Learning Sciences Center of Excellence. The Managing Editor ensures editorial and process excellence for the development and maintenance of Ascend Learning assessments, printed products, and online learning tools. Overseeing a team of editors and collaborating with a variety of other team members, this role ensures the readability, conciseness, and style of online and print content targeted to students studying for professions in health care. The Managing Editor is responsible for maintaining editorial processes, scheduling editorial tasks, and conducting performance management for team members. In addition, the Managing Editor must have expertise in Ascend products, their use in the marketplace, and the processes and tools used to deliver them.

Responsibilities:

  • Review content in assessments, electronic products, and printed materials to ensure it is well-written and logically structured with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Create and maintain editorial processes and style guides for multiple businesses and product lines.
  • Collaborate with team members to schedule and manage editorial tasks and project plans.
  • Conduct performance management for editorial team members to ensure editorial excellence.
  • Maintain existing products, including creating corrections documents and updating print and electronic files.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or English
  • Seven to ten years of experience in copy editing with leadership experience preferred

  • Excellent writing, editing, organization, communication, problem-solving, and research skills
  • Meticulous approach to work and an eye for detail
  • Understanding of basic print and online design and layout
  • Strong organizational/interpersonal skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Self-directed, highly motivated, and a team player
  • Ability to work independently
  • Background or interest in health care and education
  • Proficiency with AMA, APA, and AP styles
  • Fluency with content management, authoring, and design software
  • Maintaining high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.


This position requires that the employee be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unlessan exemptionhas been granted by Ascend Learning for a religious, health-related or other legally-mandated reason, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis in accordance with applicable law.
