Position Overview:

This editor will lead a team of content editors/writers that help create the sites' most popular and enduring content, reaching millions of users each day. In addition to medical reference articles and slideshows, the team develops immersive stories, assessments, blogs and WebMD's podcast, "Health Now." The applicant should be a creative, independent editor and leader with the ability to prioritize and excel in a deadline-driven environment. They should have experience coaching and mentoring other editors and writers to develop high-quality content and be comfortable working cross functionally to meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and guide staff and freelancers to produce high-quality, high-performing, engaging, and medically-accurate content
• Manage content projects and editorial workflow from start to finish to ensure work is high quality and deadlines are met
• Collaborate on strategic content initiatives with other departments, e.g. Content Strategists, SEO Team and Content Editors, as needed.
• Manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines
• Provide new approaches for sometimes dry or difficult content for a variety of audiences
• Maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders on content projects through effective communication

Required Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years managing a team, including direct FTE management
• 7+ years editing, including experience with an online Health, Wellness, News and/or Lifestyle brand
• Strong editorial judgment
• Demonstrated experience editing in a fast paced environment
• Familiarity with SEO, content strategy and data analytics
• Strong organizational ability, attention to detail and the capacity to work effectively under pressure
• Strong problem-solving skills to independently and quickly deal with unforeseen issues to ensure that timelines are consistently met
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience creating content and working in a CMS
• Comfortable leading large projects
