Managing Engineer - SDET

The Labs team in Toyota Connected is looking for a Managing Engineer - SDET with experience in Test Automation to be a part of a highly talented engineering team, creating new products and services from the ground up for the next generation connected vehicles. We are looking for team members that are required to be creative in solving problems, excited to work in new technology areas and be ready to wear multiple hats to get things done in a highly-energized, fast-paced, innovative and collaborative startup environment.

Responsibilities:

• Translate user stories into test scenarios and cases and provide feedback to ensure testability of all stories
• Create and execute story validation tests in an Agile environment
• Work with Product owners and users to create and execute user tests
• Maintain and expand automated test infrastructure of a large scale, embedded system
• Partner with developers to create, maintain and execute automated integration and functional tests
• Regularly dive into architecture, code, deployments, and operations to model technical excellence for the team
• Define and set standards for engineering rigor and help cultivate an engineering driven culture
• Influence best practices in software development and CI/CD methodologies
• Align technical resourcing to product release plans and material plans; drive programs to completion on time and within budget.
• Manage staffing, development, and performance management programs for engineering teams; motivating and developing project and team leaders.
• Lead, develop, train, mentor and provide coaching and guidance to engineering staff
• Facilitate team growth by attracting candidates, interviewing, evaluating and selecting new talent.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of software engineering experience including creating and executing tests
• Experience managing engineering teams with positive results.
• Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and ability to articulate complex ideas without complexity.  
• Grasp of both business operational and technical/engineering concepts backed by problem-solving skills to help drive technical decisions.
• Strong experience in a modern programming language such as Java, Python, Golang or similar languages.
• Strong experience in test automation frameworks, optimizing performance and security enabling delivery of robust and maintainable architecture.
• Experience in Agile practices and promoting Agile development techniques such as TDD, BDD and CI/CD.   
• Production experience in Public Cloud or embedded systems is a plus
• Experience helping to resolve complex technical challenges with multi team impact
• Experience guiding team(s) make cost effective technology decisions
• Experience in estimation, prioritization, and planning/coordination of testing activities in a Scrum environment
• Manage staffing, development, and performance management programs for engineering teams; motivating and developing project and team leaders.
• Familiar with systems like JIRA for tracking purposes and ensuring traceability among test cases, code, and requirements
• Ability to evaluate employee performance and provide feedback for development
• Ability to build trust and cooperation amongst team members
• Ability to establish a clear vision and strategy for the team
• Ability to take accountability for self and others to deliver results
• Exhibits integrity and high standards in work quality
• Displays care, empathy, and understanding towards team members including valuing diversity and differences amongst individuals
• Experience with Docker/Kubernetes is a plus
• Experience working with Linux based systems is a plus
