Toyota Connected’s Labs team is looking for a Managing Technical Product Owner. On the Labs team, you will be a key contributor to next-generation platforms and technology systems focused on customer experience and safety. Our Labs teams is using statistical and machine learning techniques to create scalable solutions for vehicle telemetry data and video analysis, and perform R&D to drive discovery of new generation products for connected vehicles. Responsibilities:

  • Develop vision for new product ideas and lead scrum team towards the development of those ideas
  • Define POCs that prove the technical feasibility of new ideas and communicate the outcome of those POCs
  • Build, prune and prioritize the product backlog, adapt to changing priorities and account for the necessary adjustments to maximize customer value  
  • Refine and decompose the Product backlog items with the development team into executable stories that articulates business and customer value 
  • Make sure the Product Backlog is visible, transparent, and clear to all, and provide direction on order of the Scrum team’s work 
  • Collaborate with the agile team daily, clarifying details and answering questions about direction & strategy, and actively participate in Scrum events and other planning activities  
  • Act as the voice of the customer in the design and development of connected technology software products. Work across multiple customers to determine common requirements, synthesize and document them
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure that the business, quality, and functional goals are met with each product release 
  • Identify and mitigate risks, threats, or opportunities that could impact the success of the project, notifying the team and escalating issues when appropriate 
  • Evaluate product enhancements against user value 
  • Guide stakeholders in product strategy 
  • Act as user and customer advocate by evaluating cost and impact on users and product visions 
  • Implement feedback loops for continuous improvement 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Product Management experience building and launching high-tech software products
  • Experience managing, training, guiding, coaching, and mentoring with positive results
  • Experience developing vision for new product ideas and leading Scrum team towards the development of those ideas
  • Ability to use Excel and other tools to create business models, product roadmaps, and provide supporting evidence for data driven product decisions 
  • Experience creating user stories and communicating effectively across multiple development teams and stakeholders 
  • Proven ability to represent the voice of the customer by translating customer requirements into great user stories, and evangelizing their product vision   
  • Proven ability to develop and manage complex product roadmaps and align them with priorities of other dependent product groups and global partners 
  • End to end experience building, launching, and delivering high-tech, consumer software products on a global scale 
  • Experience leading and implementing validation techniques to uncover a customer’s true needs, desired experience, product assumptions, and product risks 
  • Ability to lead teams through complex or ambiguous situations or challenges
  • Ability to monitor employee performance and provide feedback for development
  • Ability to build trust and cooperation amongst team members
  • Ability to foster engagement amongst team
  • Ability to establish a clear vision and strategy for the team
  • Demonstrates advanced problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
  • Solutions-oriented with an ability to keep an open mind while finding agreeable solutions
  • Displays care, empathy, and understanding towards team members including valuing diversity and differences amongst individuals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates ability to be the voice of the customer by translating customer requirements and sharing their product vision   
  • Experience working in an Agile software engineering environment
  • We think the knowledge acquired earning a degree in Business, Marketing, Sales or Computer Science would be of great value in this position, but if you’re smart and have the experience that backs up your abilities, for us, talent trumps degree every time

Bonus Qualifications:

  • SPO, PSPO II or CSPO certification is a plus
  • Experience working with data scientists and machine learning models is a plus
  • Experience working on Computer Vision/Voice/ML products is a plus
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field

Location:

This position is based in Plano, Texas. Toyota Connected encourages all employees to live within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned work location for Hybrid work. Relocation assistance is available.
