Job Description

Team: IT

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a MariaDB SME/Technical Architect in United States.

This role is a senior technical position focused on designing, optimizing, and maintaining a highly available, distributed MariaDB architecture supporting enterprise-grade ServiceNow environments. You will serve as the subject matter expert responsible for ensuring database performance, scalability, and reliability across multi-site on-premises deployments. The position requires close collaboration with ServiceNow administrators, business analysts, and technical stakeholders to translate operational requirements into robust database solutions. You will play a critical role in driving architectural decisions, improving system resilience, and ensuring best practices for security, compliance, and performance tuning. The environment is highly technical and collaborative, combining hands-on engineering with strategic architecture leadership. This is an opportunity to influence mission-critical systems that support complex, large-scale digital operations.

Accountabilities

You will lead the design, optimization, and operational integrity of MariaDB environments supporting distributed ServiceNow implementations, including:

  • Designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining MariaDB architectures across multiple environments and sites.
  • Managing database replication strategies to ensure high availability, scalability, and optimal system performance.
  • Collaborating closely with ServiceNow administrators to align database design with application requirements and operational needs.
  • Translating business and technical requirements into detailed database architecture and configuration specifications.
  • Leading technical workshops and providing guidance on database design, optimization, and implementation approaches.
  • Supporting performance tuning, troubleshooting, and continuous optimization of MariaDB systems in Linux/VMware environments.
  • Contributing to backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning to ensure system resilience and data integrity.
  • Enforcing security, compliance, and operational best practices across database environments.
  • Providing technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and participating in code and configuration reviews.
  • Developing and maintaining automation scripts (Python/Bash) to streamline database operations and monitoring.
  • Documenting architectures, processes, and technical decisions to ensure knowledge continuity and governance.
  • Requirements

The ideal candidate is a highly experienced database architect with deep MariaDB expertise and strong consulting and communication skills:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
    • 3–5+ years of hands-on MariaDB or MySQL engineering/consulting experience, with strong preference for MariaDB-specific expertise.
    • Strong knowledge of InnoDB internals, transaction processing, and database engine behavior.
    • Proven experience in performance tuning, optimization, and scaling MariaDB in distributed Linux/VMware environments.
    • Hands-on expertise with high availability, replication architectures, and multi-site database clustering.
    • Experience with backup, recovery strategies, and disaster recovery planning.
    • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Bash for automation and operational efficiency.
    • Strong understanding of database security controls, compliance requirements, and best practices.
    • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills in complex technical environments.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead client-facing discussions and technical workshops.
    • Preferred: RaptorDB or alternative MariaDB storage engine experience, ITIL v3/v4 certification, ServiceNow CSA certification.
    • Benefits

      • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
      • Additional protection options including life insurance, AD&D, and disability coverage.
      • Flexible spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care needs.
      • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
      • Generous paid time off, holidays, and personal leave options.
      • Remote work flexibility supporting work-life balance.
      • Professional development opportunities within a highly specialized technical consulting environment.
      • Inclusive and collaborative culture focused on innovation, learning, and technical excellence.
