PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Develop and implement development strategies for top-line, sustainable, and profitable growth via organic and inorganic initiatives for Viking Pump. Diversify Viking's industry spaces and support our company's growth aspirations through expansions into new markets, technologies and capabilities. Build a deep understanding of current, adjacent, and longer-reach market spaces for Viking. Conduct market work to ensure we have early conviction in the space: industry and market sizes, structure, scope and trends, competitive threats; products, technologies and services for potential growth. Lead and guide market research resources (internal and external) to support work as required. Use strategic framework to assess core competencies and capture existing institutional knowledge. Build compelling value propositions based on customer and market VOC. Evaluate, prioritize and execute new market, technology and customer acquisition strategies. Initiate and champion new market/technology platform proposals through product development stage-gate process. Lead with an inquisitive mindset that allows for a deeper understanding of outside-in, customer and market needs to cultivate new opportunities and/or new adjacencies for growth. Continually drive change management in a collaborative way to deliver differentiated innovation; meeting or exceeding incremental organic and inorganic growth targets.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years innovation or strategic market development experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience leading innovation and technology work; bringing new products to market; expanding customer base; and successfully driving customer-first mindset throughout an organization
  • Highly proficient in market research, insights and analysis
  • Experience preferred in industrial engineered products manufacturing or durable goods manufacturing.
  • Track record of building a strategy with organic and inorganic growth components
  • Proven capabilities in primary and secondary research
  • Prior experience developing and implementing strategies ('strategies to action')
  • Significant exposure to business functions (i.e., strategy, finance, accounting, marketing, and operations); ability to understand and influence key business drivers
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills: ability to work at all levels and in a matrix environment; someone who can effectively lead by influence and communicate the vision, message, and rationale.
  • Strategic thinking and agility: sees the big picture, makes connections, and creates strategies to achieve competitive advantage and value creation; plays chess vs. checkers; can see the possibilities, defines the map to get there, and translates actions into meaningful value
  • Strong business and financial acumen with exceptional analytical skills
  • Critical thinking and decision-making: demonstrated capacity for independent thought and critical thinking
  • Sound judgment guides calculated risks for long-term value creation. Makes decisions with conviction
  • Drive for results self-starter who can manage multiple projects and activities end to end. Capability and willingness to "roll-up" sleeves to achieve results; in a persistent and resilient way to work through obstacles
  • Ambiguity tolerance: able to navigate in the gray; can make forward progress without the whole picture. Ability to work in a new role, defining the framework where it might not currently exist and learning/iterating over time
