What you will do:
Compiles, analyzes and interprets information, trends, and market forces, communicating the results to senior management as input to the company's operating and strategic efforts. Provides research that requires integration of business knowledge with specialized research skills. Applies detailed product knowledge and expertise in qualitative/quantitative research methods to address strategic business issues and objectives. Work independently to assess business issues and provide research to support corporate strategy and objectives; lead or support interdepartmental strategic projects; manage large projects involving more complex decisions; develop complex research reports, integrating results from many sources and communicating them in a clear and concise fashion to a range of audiences; apply research/consulting experience to develop white papers summarizing industry, competitor and consumer insights and trends.
How you will do it:

  • Works directly and independently with company executives to assess business issues and provide research to support corporate strategy and objectives.
  • Provides proactive research consultation to clients in other departments.
  • Advises and assists them in solving business issues.
  • Leads or supports interdepartmental strategic projects.
  • Integrates business, product, competitor and research knowledge and information obtained to provide corporate direction and lead to insight regarding business objectives.
  • Manages larger projects that involve more complex decisions and project management. Projects typically rely less on established practices and involve greater coordination with clients, vendors and in-house personnel.
  • Coordinates the needs and opinions of different people in different departments with various areas of expertise.
  • Provides consultation to clients on more complicated business needs, and evaluates and solves business problems using structured approaches.
  • Develops research reports that are more complex in nature, integrating results from many sources and presenting them in a clear and concise fashion. Able to present complex information in an understandable way.
  • Interacts with senior management to address the company's strategic and operating objectives.
  • Communicates to various levels within the company, including executive-level, and presents complex topics to large and diverse audiences.
  • Conducts competitive intelligence research to assess marketplace activity and implications for the company.
  • Provides research consulting experience to develop white papers summarizing industry, competitor and consumer insights and trends.
  • Has a detailed knowledge of the services and expertise available through various vendors and maintains an ongoing relationship with them.
  • Evaluates vendors and service providers and responsible for managing projects whose budgets may approach $100,000.
  • Leads all phases of large-scale project management and develops and conducts formal process improvement training.
  • Provides leadership and mentoring within the primary research group and on project teams.

  • Minimum of seven years market research or equivalent experience managing projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Research or related field. Master's degree a plus.
  • Research consulting in multiple subject areas.
  • Industry, company and product knowledge required.
  • Leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Possesses expertise in all types of research including primary, secondary, quantitative and qualitative and statistical methods.
  • Proven track record for managing rigorous, complex, multiple large projects simultaneously.
  • Strong speaking and presentation skills coupled with excellent synthesis and writing skills, particular emphasis on writing for executive audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to effectively work with clients at all levels of the company.
  • Knowledge of SAS or SPSS for data tabulation, analysis and statistical procedures.
  • Knowledge in word processing and presentation software programs (e.g. Word, PowerPoint).

Pay Range - Start:
$68,320.00
Pay Range - End:
$126,880.00
Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
