General Summary:

Are you ready to learn and grow while making a positive difference in peoples' lives? If so, Unum's summer internship program may be for you! This internship allows you to be part of providing 36 million workers and families with financial protection benefits, all while shaping your career. This 10-week 'intern immersion' has many different departments including: Finance, Communications, Human Resources, and Underwriting just to name a few!

As one of our interns you'll enhance your business acumen, gain meaningful professional experience and acquire deep insight into the insurance industry. After orientation and on-boarding, you'll join one of our business areas, where you will be assigned meaningful, challenging project work, that has immediate impact on our business. You'll work on collaborative projects, while also owning individual work that will push you to learn and grow, as a professional.

Our interns participate in weekly workshops where they learn about professional development skills and how we do business. They participate in cross functional business case challenges with other interns, to solve for real business needs, which culminates with an end of summer presentation to key business leaders.

The Marketing Design Intern will be an assistive role within our design teamto help us make updates/revisions to existing marketing materials, update templates, a backlog of cleanup items, and give the intern smaller projects that make the opportunity valuable for them. Designer would have exposure to our team dynamic learning our best practices and processes. We would assess capability and share expectations clearly for responsibilities and timeframe for task(s).

Examples of items to update/revise:

  • Flyers
  • Brochures
  • Postcards
  • Assistance on guides
  • Assistance on emails
  • Social ads

Examples of backlog items:

  • PowerPoint presentation templates (with updated hierarchy, logos, and colors)
  • Icon organization (placing common icons in categories so we can be consistent, i.e.: identify the same icon for 'virtual enrollment' or 'plan setup' etc.)
  • Speaker photo organization on OneDrive (currently only in Creative Cloud HR Trends library)
  • And make brand consistent speaker photos (cut out headshots and place them on solid light neutral backgrounds for our site and webinars)

Examples of other needs:

  • Assist designers with image search/selection, accessibility tasks and archiving final design files
  • Standardize and reduce inefficiencies: apply brand hierarchy rules and update our templates (PowerPoint, flyers, brochures
  • Create table styles within our templates

The internship program starts on May 31, 2023 and ends on August 4, 2023.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited college degree program. Preference given to rising seniors and first year graduate students
  • Required 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and on-campus involvement
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think both strategically and tactically
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel software applications
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed on project work
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Available to work 40 hours per week during regular business hours

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
