Marketing Strategist

Primary Job Purpose

Leads the development of integrated end-to-end marketing plans and is the primary marketing contact for assigned internal clients. Uses analysis and insights to share marketing plans. Coordinates with partners and departments throughout the organization to ensure marketing initiatives are seamlessly coordinated to deliver optimal business results and that plans are executed with precision on time and on budget. Works with various marketing teams to ensure that they are driving toward the fulfillment of an integrated marketing plan and that ad hoc requests are met in a timely and responsive manner.

General Functions and Outcomes

  • Responsible for managing client relationship and activities related to conception, development, creation, production and implementation of promotional communications.
  • Develop and manage creative briefs to guide the development of marketing collateral in support of overarching strategy.
  • Provide oversight over marketing campaigns to ensure alignment with overarching strategy.
  • Provide weekly status reports high-level marketing strategy activities and work being done against initiatives.
  • Partners with more senior strategists in the development of business cases and development of marketing strategies for assigned client groups.
  • Works under the direction of the senior strategist and or leadership.
  • Creates annual integrated and product marketing plans for each assigned line of business. Provides strategic leadership in identifying new business opportunities and developing tactics for growth, such as new products, messaging, marketing, and sales distribution channels.
  • Translates research and strategy recommendations to actionable recommendations, brand management principles, and messaging strategy development.
  • Partners with marketing and cross-functional teams (such as Sales, Underwriting, Legal), building an understanding of the market, competitors and customer needs to develop marketing plans and implement initiatives to achieve sales and retention goals
  • Clearly articulates differentiated and compelling value propositions for products that drive sales and marketing efforts; guide future offerings to further strengthen our value proposition and expand our market.
  • Acts as the central / main point of contact for client marketing requests and other communication partners to ensure activities are aligned and resources are being deployed in most effective and efficient manner possible.
  • Daily management of the LOB marketing plan and all marketing activities; ensuring delivery of LOB marketing plan is on time and within budget.
  • Owns the responsibility for constantly monitoring and reporting on how the marketing activities and integrated marketing plan are delivering optimal sales and retention results and adjust plans as needed throughout the year.
  • Works with areas of specialty expertise in marketing and external vendors to secure resources necessary to deliver all the activities within the LOB marketing plans as well as ad hoc requests.
  • Reports back success metrics and status reports to LOB clients; works with clients to adjust marketing plans as necessary throughout the year to accommodate shifts in business strategies and/or shifts in the market or competitive landscape.
  • Acts as an advocate throughout the organization on behalf of clients; coordinates on an on-going basis with team peers to identify sales and marketing opportunities across LOBs.
  • Develops deep expertise in clients' LOBs; anticipate market shifts and identify opportunities on an on-going basis; attends all relevant client meetings to ensure meaningful understanding of client business objectives and market challenges and cascading that information out to all areas of marketing.
  • Identifies and/or responds to opportunities to develop customized marketing support for key sales targets, attending finalist presentations for mid/large group targets or accounts of strategic significance, creating customized marketing and communications plans for large group or association business.
  • Serves as a key interface between Marketing and LOB client leads, and internal division leadership
  • Works with dedicated Marketing division project staff and client-side staff with marketing-adjacent responsibilities.
  • Develops communications about project/program issues and progress. Works closely with senior management, steering committees, and LOB client contacts to steer the projects and business organization toward achieving the intended business results.

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects to completion.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with marketing strategy principles, performance monitoring
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills (both oral and written) with a client- service orientation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in marketing strategy, management principles, strategic and operational planning, project implementation and performance monitoring, and financial analysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing research, consumer insight development, translating research and strategy recommendations to actionable recommendations, brand management principles, and messaging strategy development.
  • Demonstrated project management skills in the execution of large-scale projects including effective planning, organizing, and administration of multi-functional work responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated success at meeting budget, timelines, and requirement targets and managing variances.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to think out of the box and generate creative solutions that deliver on business and sales goals.
  • Flexibility and inter-personal skills that allows effective collaboration with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to negotiate for competing resources and to generate consensus among multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience working proactively with business sponsors and partners to identify and implement solutions.

Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above

Marketing Strategist II would have a Bachelors degree in business administration or related field and at least 5+ years of marketing strategy experience with a proven track record of developing and managing integrated marketing plans that drive sales and business results or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The base pay annual salary range for this job is $76,125.00 - $131,950.00 .

The bonus target for this position is 15%.
