The Item Control Product Manager is responsible for translating and managing the feature development based on a deep understanding of a customer's needs. Responsible for the day-to-day management of Item Control products and services (i.e., capabilities, features and functions) which support the following: Merchandising systems, Office Depot contract and commercial websites, retail stores, AOPS, Supply Chain, Inventory Management, Pricing, and Space Planning in addition to customer/supplier overall web/portal experience. The incumbent will conduct competitive research and analysis to develop the product roadmap (requested/planned work).
The role will also own the continued development of Office Depot Master Data Management related to customer/supplier and multi-channel experiences. She/he will direct the development of strategy for systems/processes within Item Control that are part of the company's initiatives (Ship from Store) along with developing overall strategies. Priorities and product development cycles are determined by the Item Control Product Manager for all project work that supports business segments within Office Depot and outside customers (retail, contract, direct, services, locations, corporate and all Office Depot trade suppliers). This position is responsible for executing websites and multi-channel initiatives corporate wide to maximize revenue, profits and our customers' experience for assigned business segment. Work cross-functionally and with senior leadership (Directors/VPs) to ensure efficient and effective execution of strategy and roadmap.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Transform complex concepts or ideas into executable plans by driving awareness, trial, adoption, and repeat usage of new offering.
- Lead meetings with stakeholders to determine and set strategy for initiatives and requirements for existing or new system applications. Set priorities and product development cycles for all project work which includes large company initiatives (Ship from Store) to small level of efforts (Attribute Value Expansion). Evaluates requests from business teams and determine if it matches the strategic direction, benefit is quantifiable or if it's a soft benefit, is it truly worth the level of effort. Direct development teams to ensure that they understand the vision and requirements for the product/systems.
- Analyze customer's needs and behaviors, competition and emerging technologies to create insight to guide our strategy and product roadmap.
- Evaluate and understand customer and cross functional team's needs/requests while assessing the competitive marketplace. Recognize Office Depot's plan for growth in each business unit and the role each product category plays. Develop and consistently re-asses the product roadmap (requested/planned work) by analyzing benefit or sales/margin remediation, level of effort and strategic direction. Work cross functionally with other Product Owners to synchronize efforts, dependencies or change in direction. Manage Scrum teams by coordinating design, development and testing activities.
- Manage product lifecycle, from concept phase, assessing gaps, thru defining key capabilities. Collaborate with Ecommerce, AOPS, Supply Chain, Inventory Management, Pricing, and Space Planning teams.
- Acquire detailed knowledge of multiple business applications/functions and associated business processes. Understand impacts these applications have throughout the organization. Conduct research and analysis into the nature, effect, and results of system enhancements/problems. Drive responsibility and accountability with cross functional teams and other Product Owners. Must ensure data is acquired and managed accordingly.
- Manage platform and feature activities for all item and location setup and maintenance across multiple systems.
- Lead production support by identifying, analyzing, collaborating on solutions, testing and communicating change. Significant cross functional effort since Master Data Management is the foundational data for the company.
- Provide training to cross functional teams/customers and suppliers both internal and external. Includes, but not limited to, the following teams; Merchandising Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Trade Compliance. Develop training materials such as SOP's and FAQ's, host webinars for offsite customers, host continuous training for new hires
- Create and maintain a prioritized backlog of features and the product roadmap
- Conduct project discovery through the interviewing of key stakeholders' to flush out business rules, operational specifications, and interface specification solutions to resolve identified business issues and/or strategic initiatives.
- Serve as an expert on trends in Master Data Management which supports all systems and functions within OD and across both suppliers and customers to identify gaps or new opportunities to ultimately define a product roadmap
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in assisting with the resolution of production support issue
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- 7+ years' experience in business systems with prior experience in a retail, eCommerce, B2B, B2C, internet direct marketing or e-Procurement environment
- Master Data Management systems, Quality Center, JIRA, RMS a plus
- Analytical and problem-solving skills

- Resident expert on cutting-edge customer experience and technology trends
- Effectively leverage and apply best practices to maximize programs' benefits
