We are looking for a Materials Manager. As an Materials Manager, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.Â
This position will be leading a team of tactical Material Planners whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to: interpreting demand signals from multiple internal demand sources to generate consolidated material requirements for direct materials, obtaining and negotiating vendor quotes, generating purchase requisitions, working with vendors to confirm expected delivery dates of open purchase orders, generating/releasing/managing open production work orders, and reporting material readiness posture. This position oversees teams of Material Planners in multiple IonQ locations, including Bothell, WA and College Park, MD.
Responsibilities:Â
- Manage a team of Material Planners for all IonQ locations responsible for on-time-delivery (OTD) to Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) across multiple IonQ locations
- Develop and manage to standardized KPIs for a team of tactical Material Planners in support of driving OTD to MRP
- Develop, maintain, and manage to a set of standardized operating procedures for Tactical Planning
- Work cross-functionally with procurement, engineering, operations, project management, program management, and other departments to drive OTD to MRP
- Working with suppliers to push/pull delivery dates of direct material to meet OTD to MRP
- Assist with sourcing of alternative parts
- Manage the response to engineering change orders, proactively when possible, in both production and New Product Introduction (NPI) environments so as to limit disruption to operations
- Develop, guide, mentor, and support team of Material Planners
- Travel between IonQ locations as needed (approximately 20-30% travel)
You’d be a good fit with:Â
- Ability to implement strategic and long-term thinking while balancing the immediate execution of business needsÂ
- Ability to thrive in a high level of ambiguity with limited managerial oversight
- Strong people/team management skills and change management skills
- Experience working in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, NetSuite preferred
- Strong sense of urgency
- Strong understanding and experience working with MRP
- Minimum 7 years experience in tactical production planning, with a minimum of 3 years managerial experience
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or other related discipline
- Strong sense of business acumen, with a strong understanding of the accounting implications of inventory transactions
- Ability to create, track, manage and report key performance indicators to monitor OTD to MRP
- Strong sense of customer service, for both internal and external customers

- Experience managing a team of remote employees
- Experience scaling operations in size and/or complexity
- Experience planning in a low volume-high mix environment
- CPIM or CSCP certification
Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC. We have also recently announced our new manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. We are actively building out teams in the Washington D.C., Seattle, Boston and Toronto metro areas and will want to locate you in one of these geographies. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don’t let this stop you from applying.
