Mathematical Modeler
Job Description
The ideal candidate has a degree in applied mathematics, engineering, or a related discipline, with a solid background in mathematical biology. The candidate should be self-directed with experience developing interim objectives that contribute to team and project goals. The successful candidate will join an established team developing computational models of biological systems and software to predict the risk of severe injury, pathophysiology, and human survivability. To succeed in this role you will need to be proficient with programming in Matlab and Python in a collaborative development environment, have the ability to independently generate ideas and develop approaches, and have experience in leading tasks as part of a larger project.
Mathematical Modeler Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop conceptual, mathematical, and computational models
- Implement mathematical models of biological phenomena in research code
- Assist with verification and validation of research code during translation to production software
- Work with multidisciplinary science and engineering teams in a collaborative environment
- Lead task teams by identifying milestones and providing acceptance criteria
- Produce documentation with distribution to internal team members and clients
Mathematical Modeler Position Requirements:
- Due to the work you'll perform, you must be a US citizen and eligible to apply for and hold a US security clearance (selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements at the time of employment)
- PhD in a related discipline, e.g., civil or mechanical engineering, computer science, applied mathematics
- Experience with mathematical model development
- Knowledge of statistical methods
Mathematical Modeler Required Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of mathematical biology
- Solid understanding of sensitivity analyses and parameter estimation methodologies
- Proficiency in Python and Matlab
- Ability to develop solutions to complex problems and communicate complex ideas to collaborators in different disciplines
- Excellent written and oral presentation skills
