Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design and Testing Engineer with expertise relevant to design, development, testing and manufacturing of complex electromechanical equipment. The successful candidate will serve as a design and test engineer for KP-FHR salt pumps. 

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and prototyping program for Kairos Power FHR (KP-FHR) salt pumps
  • Generate 3D design layouts for pump testing and commissioning to meet overall project objectives and requirements
  • Actively participate in pump testing efforts, with an emphasis on developing pump diagnostic capabilities
  • Perform bearing design and life analysis, seal design and analysis, rotor-dynamic analysis and establish health monitoring strategy for salt pump
  • Perform thermal analysis, stress analysis, fatigue calculations, and modal response analysis, including assessment of effects from potentially severe environmental conditions, including high temperature and radiation
  • Create manufacturing drawings for salt pump components, and support fabrication with internal manufacturing operation and suppliers
  • Contribute to the development of manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning plans
  • Provide on-site support during testing, startup and commissioning with operation and troubleshooting of custom components
  • Design to meet cost and schedule targets
  • Ensure process integrity; promote safe operability and maintainability via formal reviews

Qualification

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent with industry experience
  • Hands-on experience with complex equipment testing and diagnostics
  • Experience designing for Nuclear, Energy, Chemical, Petrochemical, Defense, or Aerospace applications
  • SolidWorks experience required, CAD/CAE and rotating equipment dynamic analysis competency preferred
  • Ability to work with a robust requirements management system desired
  • High-temperature, corrosive environment design and operation experience desired
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to project managers, engineers, technicians, fabricators and external stakeholders in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills

Travel

  • Some travel may be required (up to 30%)

  • Requires schedule flexibility
  • Occasionally requires non-standard work-week hours
  • Occasionally requires extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines

The salary range for this position is $89,200 to $104,900 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.  Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
