Our thermal-fluid analysis engineers research, design, optimize, analyze, and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and thruster systems through highly integrated space exploration systems. You'll support design optimization, testing, and delivery of complex systems and your technical duties include the analysis and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.
Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL-designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design and optimize thermal-fluid systems
  • Develop thermal models to inform component sizing, material selection and survivability
  • Support design trades with rapid modeling
  • Write and present technical reports
  • Support the development and implementation of test campaigns to anchor models

Must-haves:
  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and typically 2 or more years of relevant experience
  • Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Practical Knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
  • Familiarity working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering
  • Master's in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on thermal-fluid analyses
  • Good written and spoken communication skills
  • Capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Exposure to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
  • Experience in Engineering Simulation such as Finite Element structural Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis
  • Experience performing hand calculations to solve simple analysis problems or generate boundary conditions
  • Working experience performing thermal analyses on spacecraft or subsystems
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes
  • Familiarity with MATLAB is preferred
  • Ideally experienced in COMSOL, ANSYS, Thermal Desktop or a similar software
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required Learn more about the background check process for Security Clearances

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity

Referral Bonus: $1,500
Compensation Range: $72,059.06-$99,081.20
