Mechanical Engineer II - Ground Support Equipment

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will:
- Internally design and analyze - OR - manage the outsourcing of ground support equipment (GSE)
- Author and review requirements documents, statements of work (SOWs), operation and maintenance (O&Ms) manuals, and verification documentation
- Author, review, and iteratively revise procedures for spacecraft operations
- Identify operational needs and translate them into custom support hardware
- Support the test team in integrated vehicle testing, and closeout operations.
- Support the launch site and launch team through spacecraft loading and launch
- Support the development of the concept of operations to facilitate efficient and safe processing of flight hardware
- Lead and provide floor support for procedure execution that utilizes Ground Support Equipment (GSE)
Success in this role will be dependent on strong hands-on experience, attention to detail, and excellent problem solving and people skills.
Must-haves:
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and typically 3 or more years of relevant experience
- Practical Knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
- Operational or hands-on experience in fast-paced dynamic production or operations environment
- Familiarity working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
- Knowledge of industry-standard design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware and or electrical component selection, fabrication, manufacturing, and production processes
- History with authoring and/or executing written work instructions for building, testing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting critical equipment
Preferred:
- 3+ years of experience with spacecraft/payload operations, small/cube Sats, integration, manufacturing, or test environment working on electrical, fluid and/or mechanical systems.
- Experience of taking a design through its life cycle; design requirements, concept, final drawing release, validation/testing, and into service
- Ability to organize, plan, and execute a project with respect to technical design, cost, and schedule
- Experience using SOLIDWORKS, Creo, NX, ProEngineer, AutoCAD, CATIA or Enovia 3Dxperience software
- Experience with performing component and assembly level stress analysis and reporting results
- Working knowledge of ASME and Government standards
- Background in the Aerospace & Defense Industry
- Prior experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
- Experience in digital and analog circuit layout and schematic capture
- Understanding of the printed circuit board layout process and tools
- Experience with use or operation of heavy equipment and cranes
- Experience with spacecraft or aircraft operations
- Cleanroom operations and requirements, ESD, FOD
- Project management/scheduling working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook, VISIO, MS Project), EVM, KPIs, QBDs
- Experience with non-conformances (NCs) and PLM software.

Physical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:
- Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
- Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
- Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.

Referral Bonus: $1,500
Estimated Starting Salary Range: $79,264.96 - $108,989.32. Sierra Space considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.
