Mechanical Engineering Co-Op

THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE A STUDENT TO BE IN ROLE FROM JUNE TO DECEMBER 2023

Vicarious Surgical is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op to join our team in Waltham, MA.

Vicarious Surgical is a next generation robotics company developing a disruptive technology with the goal of increasing the efficiency of surgical procedure, improving patient outcomes, and reducing healthcare costs.

Team Focus

As a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op on the hardware team you will work alongside a knowledgeable group of engineers to design, build, and test new versions of our surgical robotic system. In addition to other mechanical and electrical engineers, you will collaborate with the assembly, quality, systems, software, and manufacturing teams on a regular basis to keep your project moving. And most importantly, you will have the chance to make a large impact on the Vicarious Surgical robotic system.

Project Work

• Understand - and where needed, develop - the requirements of a subsystem critical to the functionality of our robotic system
• Generate new conceptual designs to either solve an issue or to add new functionality to our robotic system
• Prototype your designs using our internal CNC shop and 3D printers, or by procuring parts from an external manufacturer
• Develop test plans and equipment to evaluate your design
• Perform testing to verify the performance of your design against your hypothesis and/or requirements
• Document your work so that others can benefit from your hard work
• Learn about the process of developing a surgical robotic system and the medical device field of product development

About You 

• Must be available for 6 months and be local to Waltham, MA.
• Self motivated and able to be productive without constant supervision 
• Familiarity with Solidworks or equivalent CAD system 
• Good organizational skills
• Good communication skills
